Rectal bleeding during period, sigmoidoscopy shows no endo. Any ideas...?

Thanks for reading this, I'll try and keep it brief.

My first visit to the GP was in December for bleeding during sex. It was enough to fully cover the part of the tissue I'd use to wipe (sorry for the details).

Had a smear test at that point too which came back normal.

Doc referred me to gynae consultant as she thought it might be polyps in my uterus.

Gynae consultant examined me internally, said he couldn't see signs that there might be polyps but referred me for an ultrasound and an internal trans vaginal scan. Scan results showed quite a thick lining in my uterus which could poss be polyps.

Gynae consultant decided to do a hysteroscopy to look inside my uterus. Also I had a cervical ectropian and he said he'd cauterise this at the same time.

Whilst waiting for op date, in February I started to bleed from my rectum, however only during my period. I called my consultant who said that this could possibly also be a sign of endo and that he'll do a lap to look for endo when he does the hysteroscopy. A couple of months after it first happened I passed quite a large clot. The rectal bleeding isn't as heavy as my vaginal flow (probably about 25% of it) however it gets heavier and lighter in line with my vaginal flow.

Also, it's happened every period since it first started in February, although some months aren't as heavy as other months, and I've not passed another clot since.

Anyway, lap showed no endo on the outside of any of my organs and everything looked healthy. Cervical ectropian cauterised all ok. However my cervix was too narrow to be able to do a hysteroscopy so he said he'll keep an eye on my uterus with scans. He also referred me to an endoscopy consultant for a sigmoidoscopy.

Since I've started having sex again, I'm still bleeding. Had more scans a couple of weeks ago and I had the sigmoidoscopy today. And it showed my colon as normal...no endo! Which I'm happy about, however I really want to know why I'm getting rectal bleeding. The consultant said that my colon looks normal and so to just ignore it.

I'm waiting for another appointment with my gynae consultant to go through the recent second scan results. The sonographer doing the scan said that the lining of my uterus was a little thick but not a great deal. However it was day 6 of my cycle and so I wouldn't expect there to be much there.

So.....does anyone have any advice or thoughts?

What could the bleeding during sex be?

What could the rectal bleeding during my period be?

Any ideas would be really welcome. Thanks so much xx

Hi there! I'm experiencing the exact same thing as you. Mine started 5 years ago with bleeding during sex a huge amount which was very worrying, then a year ago I started with the rectal bleeding, only during my period and very heavily too. I've had the lap and colonoscopy and nothing could be found.

I went to a second opinion with a family friend in Germany and she said it could still be endo and is trying me out on some pills that should determine whether or not it's endo. I've been going insane with the doctors I've seen here, I get told I'm making it up, that it's all in my head or to get over it (the worst was just being told to use lube and get over the pain- ended up crying)

The pillthey are trying me on is vissane, maybe see if this could be an option for you too? Just keep pushing, it's not normal and it's not right. The only other thing I could suggest also is did you get the sig done when you were bleeding? The only other thing it could be are hemeroids that flare up with your hormones- talk about both with your doctor!

Hope it gets better for you x
