I have been advised to take Esmya to shrink Fibroids but have read the list of side effects and am worried about commencing the treatement, especially as most of them seem to be common. Has anyone had experience with Esmya for Fibroids?

Hi, I started on Esmya for fibroids 3 weeks ago. I was told to take for 3 months, have a break then take again for 3 months and the consultant would see me again in 8/9 months! This was after waiting several months to see the consultant. After the first few days of taking it, my pain got worse and I'm now on even more painkillers than I was before. My GP didn't know what to do as knew nothing about Esmya so contacted consultant. I have an appointment for 5 weeks time! Everyone reacts differently though and I have read lots of positive stories also.

No experience with Esmya for fibroid removal. I only know people who have had it removed surgically and it still came back after a year or two. I am just ttc for now and I hope to have mine removed surgically after my 1st child. All the best with Esmya and please keep me posted as I will like to know if it truly works x

Hi, I was on Esmya for 3months, hasn't done a thing and booked for hysterectomy etc., major op for me, Esmya was my last hope. The pain you're experiencing is normal, its the blood flow stopping and yes, it's agony! But may be seen as working so fingers crossed for you😊. I was told 3months only though as this long enough to see if it helped...and long term use side effects not known so I'd be inclined to question the extra dose. Wishing you the best of outcomes😊

Hey Susie. I was hoping not to get a surgery and try to treat my fibroid with any non invasive methods. You said esmya didn't help at all. How was the surgery then? Was it a vertical incision or horizontal? I also hv a skin condition that made me have hypertrophic scars so I am really afraid. Would you give me details about your recovering? And where have you done the surgery. Tks in advance.

Yes I took four courses of three months Esmya for adenomyosis. The first weeks are bad, I also had migraine. After that I didn't feel a thing. No bleedings.

Hi Dylan,

Yes, the gyno told me to have at least one bleeding/one period before starting the next course. That is required.

I don't remember exactly but I think I had 3 months between first and second course, 6 months before second and third and 9 months between third and fourth.

This was not planned beforehand but this was the time the menses got so awful again I couldn't take the pain anymore so I went to the gyno, he did an ultrasound and I got the next course.

All the best with your mum, I hope she feels (a bit) better now.

Hi Patricia, thank you for your reply, it's really important to me, actually my mum did not felt much side effects but only some hot flushes when she first took the Esmya. Btw, the gyno didn't tell my mum to take a break before continue second course, I think maybe because my country (Malaysia) was just introduced to this medication year ago so the gyno still not so understand this Esmya?? Fortunately I check Esmya myself and saw this place… thanks again for ur help ^^

Hi Dylan,

My gyno said it was necessart to stop at least one menses between courses to check the effect on the endometrial lining.

I don't think it is very bad that your mother didn't take the break however she must have an ultrasound to check the thickness of the uterus lining.

If you type in: "esmya stop between courses uterus lining" in google you will find the report of the European Medicine Agency on Esmya. Read it. It provides lots of information.

I didn't have hot flushes but everyone is different :-)

How old is your mum? I took my Esmya courses between ages 38-41. I am 42 now.

Wow Malaysia, this is why I love HU. It brings together people from all over the world. F.e I am living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Hugs,

Good luck Paulette!

I only had migraines at my first course for the first few days. Migraines suck but for a few days I could handle them.
