My gynaecologist has suggested trying esmya as zoladex aggravated my migraines. Does anyone have any experience of taking it and the side effects? x

I took Esmya to shrink fibroids prior to surgery. I think that's what it's primarily used for.

I was entirely pain free while on it so no complaints from me. I also had medical menopause injections a year or so before that and I was pain free then too, but had some awful side effects with it. No side effects with the Esmya.

Good luck! X

No side effects sounds good!! My consultant said that it is usually taken for fibroids but research has shown that it can also help endo. Anything's got to be better than zoladex!!! x

Hiya, I'm into week 5 now of taking Esmya & although far far far less debilitating than 16 months on ProstapI am really struggling with severe fatigue, severe lower back pain & extremely dry eyes as well as the beginnings of some uterine discomfort. I'm starting to wonder if I can go back to using some add-back Progesterone, as I was doing when I was on the Prostap. I'm no longer using Estradiol gel at the moment but I am still using Testogel most days. I know the dry eyes is because of low / bottomed-out Progesteron.. but why the uterine discomfort? I just want the TAH+BSO done now. I want to pain free & to have energy & vigour again. I want my life back!

Oh dear sorry to hear that you are still suffering on Esmya! I bottled it when I was supposed to start taking it last month. However, the tablets are still in the cupboard waiting for me so I won't be able to escape them next time! I have low progesterone and haven't heard of the link with having dry eyes before. Unfortunately there are so many side effects will all of these meds it's a case of trying to find the least worse. I had been having regular acupuncture until about a month ago when I decided to try and the Esmya and have also broken my knee so I can't get to appointments. I can definitely feel the difference - my hormones felt like they were through the roof at the weekend and I felt really spaced out! Hope you get you life back soon!

Thanks Scribble! How on earth have you broken your knee???!!! I hope it heals real soon. Are you in plaster? How do you find the Acupuncture? What difference has it made for you?

My friends dog ran full speed into my knee, threw me into the air and I then landed on the same knee!!! I'm not in plaster as that doesn't seem to be the thing any more but have a leg brace and crutches. What I've found really difficult is that I have so much endo pain, and have a high pain threshold as a result, that I have been trying to carry on as usual. I've now been signed off for a week to get some rest and get the pain under control as I'm not really sleeping.

In relation to acupuncture, I found a great lady who specialises in women's health. The sessions are a mixture of almost counselling as you need to give full details of your symptoms etc since your last appointment and treatment. I have found that it really helps to level my hormones and with the band of pain that I was having most days. When the pain is very severe it doesn't help but she has always been upfront about that. I always find the sessions very relaxing and we're a great help with the zoladex side effects as well as nausea. The downside is that it is expensive - I was going 3 times a month at £45 a session! My bank balance has definitely noticed a difference 😀
