I’m wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
I had an internal and external ultrasound for possible endometriosis. The radiologist said my scan results looks like possible adenomyosis and that I’m too young to have fibroids (I’m 18) , however my GP is convinced it’s fibroids? I have now been referred to my local gynaecologist for further investigation. I have been having problems with my period since I began menstruating, and I’ve now noticed small amounts of blood within my stools while menstruating as well as pain during urination on my period. I’m really worried as it’s a lot to take in and it’s difficult with little answers.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I would ask your GP to refer you for a Pelvic MRI to confirm the Ultrasound. It sounds possible from what you've said that you may have more endometrial cells than is possible to see on the US scans. Either way it's not normal and you deserve to know what is going on.
I was diagnosed with endometriosis and a massive fibroid of 8 cm on an ultrasound and afterwards on a pelvic MRI with endo protocol. I had a laparoscopy done to remove it and after it was done the doctor told me the fibroid mass was from adenomiosis. I was starting to have a very bad flow on my period. That bleeding you see in your stool on your period may be endo on your colon. I would get endo specialist doctor appointment if you can. He knows this disease better.
yes! To all of the above. I was finally diagnosed with adenomyosis at age 54 after suffering since I was 13. Please push for an mri it’s the only way to diagnose adenomyosis apart from hysterectomy
A lap can “suggest” adeno but not diagnose. The only 100 positive way is MRI or valuation of uterus after Hysterectomy. Laparoscopy & scans told me I had fibroids I didn’t. Suffered for 25 years
you’re right the only confirmed way for definite is looking at the uterus after a hysterectomy - I was diagnosed through MRI and laparoscopy. Just didn’t want an 18 year old girl getting freaked out that she may have to have a hysterectomy for definitive diagnosis which is the way it sounded. 28 years experience 🙄
I will push for a pelvic MRI. I’m currently stuck on an NHS waiting list for gynaecology so I’m not sure how long it will take for things to progress forward. It’s really frustrating.
Has your GP done any other test to rule out why you have blood in your stools? Ask for a full blood count blood test as well as MRI and be strong in advocating for yourself. While you’re waiting a gynaecologist appointment see if you can find out who you’re being referred to and let their secretary know that you can do short notice for any appointments that may arise. If it is endo’ I think the sooner your get a specialist the better. Wish you well x
My GP requested a full blood test which came back completely normal. However no MRI as he feels one isn’t required as testing has been clear. Ultrasound shown what looked like fibroids, radiologist said adenomyosis and possible endometriosis. GP has now cleared my case and referred me to gynaecologist. Still no answers to blood in stools when menstruating, I’ve just been told it’s fibroids and that’s it x
they make you mad! My specialist at the BSGE centre the first thing he does is an MRI & ultrasounds. I’ve endometriosis in my bowel, I get a sharp internal stabbing pain sometimes blood in my stool. I hope you get some answers soon, half the battle is getting the correct diagnosis! X
Like others have said, please push to see a gyneacologist, and please push to be sent to one with an endometriosis centre. Some gyneas don't know a lot about endo. Mention your cyclical pain and don't stop pushing till you have answers. The blood tests aren't really an answer when it comes to endo.
