So i heard that sleeping with a pillow under your hips help relieve pain, anyone had any experience of this? Every time I google this it just comes up with conception advice, but I just want to know if anyone has seen improvements in pain, thanks! x

I have done this for years as i have chronic back pain. I place it below my thighs or upper legs so that my knees are gently bent. This helps you keep your lordosis ( spine curve) in shape so places less pressure on your body is the theory. If i roll on my side to sleep i put it in between my knees which again helps your spinal position.

I find lying on my back and putting a pillow under my legs/bum helps ease the pain enough for me to get to sleep. I'd say it's worth a go, hope it helps you x

Just a thought, but you could also try a pregnancy pillow. This would mean sleeping in a side position. It can definitely take the pressure off your pelvis. I am pregnant now and tried the Mum E pillow. (There are lots of other types.) It's pretty good asides from having a polyester pillow slip, which I don't like! I can imagine it being useful around my period when I normally get a lot of pain.

Otherwise, a bolster just above the knee with the knees apart is good when lying on the back.

Do a search for Shavasana (corpse pose) + bolster for some ideas.

I am having a hip replacement done soon and I suffer with a lot of pain at night. Years ago, I bought a cheap, rock hard memory pillow, which was too hard to put my head on but luckily I kept it. I used it 2 years ago to elevate my ankle after surgery and I now sleep with it under my legs, between my hips and knees. I find this helps quite a lot having my hip at an angle.

Hi,

This is 100% helpful with the pain for me. I would recommend this. I sleep with a V shaped pillow - I have done for 10years. I find this helps me get comfortable, I can be very restless with the pain I get during the night so I always place the pillow under my hip and legs. I tend to want to sleep on my tummy with a hot water bottle and the pillow. It defiantly takes the pressure off while sleeping.
