Post surgery hormones

I was wondering if anyone knew why after having my cyst removed do I need to go on hormone treatment? I'm on Visanne for 3 months but it's getting me incredibly down and don't feel good taking it. I asked my doctor and Gynocologist friend that I have and they both advised me to go on anti depressed but I don't agree in masking the problem. Has anyone else experience this? And what solutions are there? I wanted to go back on the Yasmin pill I was taking as it was mild and got on ok with that. Previous to that I had a stronger hormone contraceptive pill which I went off too as I got to down.
