From my original appointment with GP back at the beginning of March I was referred to local hospital as my Mirena would be five years old ( need replacing?) and endo symtoms returning . ( I have a history of endo) Very concerned it would go back to what it was. We have moved 100 miles from where I was originally treated ,which was a combination of NHS / private all with the same consultant. ( my husband has Bupa Cover) . I have since had ( in a six month period) had two appointments with NHS , both times NEVER seeing the consultant always a registrar ( who had to run out of room to get answers to questions I asked ) plus being sent for MRI as they couldn't see Mirena , then for an extra X-ray as they still couldn't see the coil, only to be told by someone in X-ray department the Mirena was clearly visible on the MRI ! This did not exactly fill me with confidence. Having been told they will change the Mirena and ( with bad grace) do a Lap. In addition to this I had a long discussion with the Registrars volunteering myself for a private referral but was told ' wait till you know what needs doing' then decide .... Well I have decided ... I want a second opinion etc and Bupa are happy to help. My GP has called me and gone potty..... I tried to explain that I was simply following the advice of the hospital but she basically accused me of wasting their time, even though I explained the experience I had had ( her words ' so things haven't gone smoothly - never the less you should have the treatment on the NHS' ). Now I feel guilty, angry and even more frustrated .. Uncomfortable at seeing GP again ( about anything ) . Sorry this is really just a rant! My previous GP and consultant were so helpful, always trying to do the best for me.... But this time it's like I have personally insulted her. Feeling calmer now I have written this down.
Feeling angry at GP .... : From my original... - Endometriosis UK
Feeling angry at GP ....
Don't know why the GP is unhappy with you going private, you are saving NHS money! I have to say my NHS GP is only too happy to refer me privately. I prefer to go to see a private GP because I want someone actually listened to my complaints. I am not expecting the GP comes up with solutions, however I would like them to investigate thoroughly or refer me straight away. NHS GP just wants you out of the door as soon as possible. I would get another GP for referrals or is there private GP near you? My charges around £80 for 20 min consultation.
Hope you get sorted soon.
What a horrible Gp, don't let them make you doubt yourself. Demand your second opinion and if possible I would recommend a specialist endometriosis centre of your having a lap you may as well be treated by the people that will know how to treat it beat then and there than have someone look in and then send you on to someone else if something needs to be done. Unfortunately your not alone in being treated like that, I've been fobbed off more times than I can list. Stay strong and listen to your body. Don't ever compromise when it comes to toe health. Good luck xx
I wish we could all give a lecture together to all these gps as they do to us and see how they like it for a change. To be stood over and told you know nothing. Definetly go private if that's what's best for you, it's your body and you have to live in it not them. Go with your gut instinct and I hope it works out for you
Could you enquire if there is a Family Planning Clinic in your area that has quicker appointments? I know they fit Mirena and other in ours maybe they will change it for you.
Yes I had laps in both 2007and 2011. In between I had 3 rounds of ifs IVF
Yes I had laps in 2007 and 2011, in between I had three rounds of IVF which resulted in the birth of my twins in 2009. I have asked the GPs to get me the records of these procedures, though I still have to collect them. The Mirena was fitted ( still quite a new thing at the time for endo treatment back then) in 2011, but in all honesty I have never seen detailed reports . Because my endo was left to get well established ( the usual story of IBS diagnosis) and wasn't detected until fertility investigations, the first lap found the most .... But two years after the birth I was wise to the symtoms and was absolutely not going to allow things to get as bad as before. And now again the symtoms are there, and I am trying to be proactive and not allow it to take hold. I am 47 though, so not sure how the menopause will affect things ... Positively / negatively ... Just want a constructive discussion with a consultant , which is just not the experience I have had so far with the NHS ... And now the blooming GP getting all self righteous !
