Mirena coil: I'm due for a lap on 18th... - Endometriosis UK
Mirena coil
Hi I had my lap in January they asked before op if they find endo if they can insert mirena. It's totally up to you, I advised them to do it endo is present. It's taken a while to adjust but just this week I haven't bled and thins are settling with regards to bleeding, it hasn't helped my pain. I'm having my first lot of zoladex next week as my endo is quite severe. It's different for everyone but I don't regret trying mirena.
Thank u for replying I have heard so many things about the marina coil I'm just not sure I want it,I have had 2 courses of zoladex injection and it helped me loads I had no pain but the the menopause symptoms were terrible 😯
You still have some time to think it over. Do what feels right. I'm really still unsure about zodalex myself
Hope everything goes ok if u have the injection 💉 😊
Thank you what's it like when they do it. Is it painful ? Where do they inject
Injection was in my lower stomach, right side then the next injection was left side, not going to lie it was painful but done very quickly.u can ask for pain relief if needed I was offered it but declined it.also the site of injection can b tender for a few days.
The Mirena was not discussed with me during my lap but 6 months later I had an MRI scan which showed further problems, Adenomyosis, Ovarian Cysts & deeper endo than first seen during lap. I was then offered the coil and was petrified of it hahaha! I’ve had it since Feb 2015 (it was painful and messy for about 5 weeks) and honestly it has changed my life! I’ve had 12 periods in 14 months, they are light and last a few days (still painful though), however I am not in pain for the whole month like I used to be, sex is enjoyable and no longer impossibly painful, I rarely bloat to the shape of a balloon and generally feel better in myself most days. I have tried 5 contraceptive pills, the implant, oral hormone tablets etc. and felt really rubbish with other symptoms but not with the coil! I know it is different for everybody but I would recommend everybody tries it at least, it is easily removed if it is causing problems for you. Good Luck with your laparoscopy xxxx
Hi I had stage 4 endo and had the coil fitted during my op 2 years ago. It took about 9 months before I started to feel normal again. It stopped my bleeding completely which has been life changing for me. I had a great surgeon who was able to unstick everything and remove all endo. I really disliked the coil and the side effects (some hair loss for a few months, terrible pains in legs, abdomen and bum or months, several periods of depression/anxiety) however over time the side effects have settled down or stopped. I wanted to remove it many times in the first year due to the side effects.
Around 9 months after my first op I had no pain or bleeding for a further 18 months. As a consequence of the severity of my scarring a huge cyst formed in my pouch of Douglas. It was growing quickly and i started to get severe pains again. I had my second op about 6 weeks ago and my surgeon confirmed that no new endo had formed since my first op so I would like to think that the coil has served its purpose. So it has been successful for me in that way. I will leave the coil in as the other option (heavy bleeding and lots of pain) are not worth it. That's probably the best bit for me - no periods and worrying about leakage freakage!!!!!!! I just can't imagine going back to that!
Good luck with your decision xx
Hi, I had my lap in October to which they found the endo, I got the coil fitted at the time of my procedure as the hospital advised me that it would help with the pain and heavy bleeding, 6 months down the line I feel no better, the bleeding is worse and the cramps are more severe than before, I am taking pain relief medication like sweets, I feel generally drained, I have been refered back to the gynaecologist this month as its impacting on my daily life, I feel generally helpless. I will say one thing, everyone is different and you may be absolutely fine with the coil as no two people are the same, good luck with everything 😊
