4 days to go...

The realisation is kicking in now, the panic and constant need to pack and unpack then repack my hospital bag is getting all to stress full.

4 days to go until my laparoscapy. I'm also having a hysteroscopy with an endometrial biopsy.

These next few days will consist of cleaning, food shopping and self prepping for the Opp!!

Does anyone have a list or some advice on what to have at Hand in hospital and for when I get home?

HI there

Some peppermint tea is a must and should help with the left over gas that's left behind ,also you may want to ask for some form of laxative after op ,as you proberbly know some of the pain relief they give can make you a bit constipated .

Wishing you all the best with op try and and get some rest beforehand I know it must be difficult when lots to sort beforehand!

Peppermint tea is really helpful in hospital to help ease bloating/ aid digestion. Earphones for listening to music if that calms you. It will really depend how long your operation is / whether they are removing Endo or whether it is just diagnostic? I prepared lots of meals in the freezer for after my operation that I could easily re-heat. Also I loved making fresh smoothies after my op as I had difficulty opening my bowels. You will want slippers and dressing gown in hospital and to leave as many valuables at home as possible. I've stayed over night both times so I'm not sure what you need if you don't stay in! Im not a fan of needles but it really wasn't too bad, you'll probably have a canula in your hand/ arm and they may take your blood. You'll also do a urine sample. Can't think of what else you'll need to know! Good luck x

**Clean your house as much as poss

**cook usual meals and freeze

**charge ipads/mobiles/ecig

**try get a high small table next to your bed. ( Save turning or bending)

**stock up on pain killers and San pads

**bottled water

**have a bath day of or night before as can't bathe for 5 days after

**take charger in hospital

**house coat and slippers

**easy shoes to slip on as you won't b able bend over put shoes on. ( Hubby popped my uggs on.)

**Socks to keep feet warm when waiting go down.

I took way too much in and didn't need it.

If you wear a wedding ring they'll allow it and just tape it on.

**clean underwear and pads

I had this done last week and scars healing fine. Nearly gone. I was scared of been put asleep but it was fine. An that was my first op!!

thing I wasn't prepared for is the gas from helium they use to bloat you to look around. Had sleep sitting up for 4 days ( so needed a big pillow also.)

And as other lady's have mentioned I drank decaf blk peppermint tea.

I went in clothes walked out in pj's in a great mood cos of anaesthetic, next op ill just go in blk pj's.

Best wishes for your op you'll be fine.

Have you got someone collecting you as you're not allowed to lift anything for a week. So be helpful to have someone carry hospital bag out for you.

Good luck don't be nervous. I was a nervous wreck and it was fine.

hi sophie. i just had exactly the same as you - 3 days before christmas. it was far better than i expected. yes im a bit sore, yes im tired but nothing compared to what i expected. i am able to move around and drove my car 48 hours later (but please take advice on this) i too had to ensure everything was organised prior to christmas. but i have just enjoyed a couple of hours sale shopping - now time for a nap lol xx make sure you have plenty of pain relief, a cosy blanket, peppermints of some sort and lots of dvds. you will be fine

To add to the list already recommended, I also took:

Straws - to help me drink while in hospital, without having to sit up too much.

A see through washbag type thing with all my nick nacks in, so I could just grab it without having to fiddle about in the bedside drawer.

Lip Balm - your mouth gets terribly dry from the anaesthetic and tube.

Big granny knickers 2 sizes too big to pull up over my scars

Jogging pants 2 sizes too big to go home in and wear during recovery.

They may let you go home the same day, fingers crossed, but at least you'll be prepared if you do stay in.

Good luck

x

Hey, agree with everyone else re. Peppermint! Hysterscopy should be quite straightforward, am sure the advice is similar to laparoscopy - you'll be fine xx
