Hi, I have had the mirena coil for a year now & instead of easing/stopping my periods I'm now on for longer, heavier & more painful. I'm now 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.
I'm now so heavy I regularly get light headed, woozy and pass out.
I didn't see the doctors about it until the year was up so they couldn't say I didn't give it time to settle down.
The GP prescribed me nothistorone (sorry for the spelling) about 6 months into the coil which did literally nothing.
I've now been prescribed a 10 day course of tranexamic acid 6 500mg a day. I'm almost finished the 3rd day & there is no difference.
So my questions :-
💛 Has anyone had a similar experience with the mirena coil? If yes, do you know why it happened & how was it resolved?
💛 I've read that you should only take at most a 4 day course of tranexamic acid, am I ok taking it for 10 days?
& finally :-
💛 How long does tranexamic acid (roughly) take to work?
Also I quick note that might be useful - I was diagnosed with stage 4 Endometriosis 2 years ago via emergency surgery.
Any advice/information will be most appreciated, Thanks.
Cejay.

I was diagnosed with stage 3, two years ago following a laparoscopy to remove endometriomas that had been seen on an ultrasound.
I had my mirena coil removed yesterday. I gave it over a year as gradually my periods got closer and closer together, to the point where I've been bleeding continuously for over 4 months now. Went back to gp who dragged out removing it for months, referring me back to hospital first. The consultant I saw told me that in some cases the coil doesn't work and to try something else. The problem is now through giving it over a year and having to wait till now, where its actually been in nearly 18 months, I've bled more and I've got to go back in to have new formed endometriomas removed.
I've been prescribed provera to try and the stop the bleeding, which so far its not done. I've also been given tranexamic acid, but was told not to take it for more then 4 days as well. to be honest I've not tried taking it yet as I've also been taking a huge does of prescribed Vit D3 as i was severely deficient and its been too much to fit in taking an extra 6 pills a day on top of the provera, vit D, multi vitamins, probiotics and painkillers. I was told tranexamic acid is usually prescribed to those who suffer from persistent nose bleeds, and that it "might" stop bleeding or at least lessen the heaviness.
I wasn't given anymore info on why the coil didn't work aside from "it's just one of those things, sometimes its not right for some people". I was told though that there would be no point trying the mini pill as they're the same hormone.
I'm trying to read up more on endometriosis as the response I've received from the doctors I've seen has been unsupportive. Who seem to offer up nothing than: keep trying hormones and having laparoscopies.
I'm sorry you've been suffering this way. hopefully they can find something that works better for you.
