phoning the hospital

I often feel guilty phoning my hospital to check on my admission for laparscopic surgery date - particularly since it has been pushed back from May to July.

Does anyone else phone the hospital for this information? and how often?

Thanks xxx

Don't feel guilty, it's perfectly normal you want to know when your procedure is going ahead especially as it has been put back already!!

I think all of us on here can share that frustration with you, we all had procedures we had to wait a very very long time for whilst living with daily pain.

I am going through similar issues at the min, I already had 2 ops including a laparotomy, pain is still very much there so been refered to gastro for colonoscopy which was suppose to take place in April but I'm still waiting, apparently gastro specialist is on compassionate leave hence the delay, now if I didn't call I wouldn't have known that and because I called they have now transferred me to another gastro consultant so it does help, you have every right to call and ask for an update so please don't feel guilty!!

Wishing you luck

I keep ringing and nagging for appointments with no shame, got to look after ourselves. Got a 2 week move forward with intital gynae, got an appointment with colo-rectal following a clear barium enema in March when they originally sent me a June date. I have now been referred to Birmingham Women's and I phoned my GP secretary 3 days in a row to nag about the referral letter; well it had taken 10 days without her starting. I then called the hospital this week to check it had arrived, they actually told me once I get an appointment to call weekly to check if there are any cancellations!

Hi there, sorry to hear you are waiting! I'm in a similar situation, waiting for surgery (sent for surgery in January) and still no news. I've called a few times but keep being told no news.

As well as endometriosis I'm being investigated for epilepsy and an atypical migraine aura. Because of this I've been put on a progesterone only pill as a combined pill is dangerous as I am a stroke risk. This new pill is terrible, making my bloated and tired and causing me to bleed constantly. I can't swap pills until they know if I have epilepsy or migraine aura, I'm not suppose to be bleeding before surgery, but I am! I can't get a date for surgery & I'm waiting on so many neurology tests and results. The entire process is exhausting & frustrating.

Please don't feel guilty! What you are going through is terrible and the not knowing and waiting is traumatic and exhausting.

I've given up calling the hospital as it just adds to more stress and aggravates the fact that I'm still in pain and still waiting.

Don't feel guilty, you are doing nothing wrong! Best of luck with everything, I hope you get your date soon K xx

Don't feel guilty you need the information and it's a pain waiting in limbo until you can have the operation. I am in a similar and was speaking with the hospital yesterday.

I have the numbers of my consultants secretaries, the service manager's number and the admission officer's number and I call them all depending on what info I need to find out. I was supposed to have a op in December last year but when I met with consultant he informed me that that wouldn't happen, I was then told it would be march this year but the day before I found out they had cancelled it and not told me sooner. I then complained. I've now been told it will be 23rd June but still no info and was told yesterday there is a slight problem they are trying to sort out. So I'll be calling again next week.

I basically call every 3 weeks or so depending on what the situation update was the time before, I.e. if they have to wait on info from someone I give them a little more time for this etc. I have quite a lot of specialists involved in my op though so it has been a pain for the hospital to get them all together.

Basically keep chasing if you need to
