Bilateral salpingectomy, delayed period.

Hi Ladies,

Had a bilateral salpingectomy over 3weeks ago which has totally messed with my cycle. Was on the second day of my menstrual cycle on the day of the surgery. I'm usually regular as clockwork. Can't understand why this would happen. I've read that an oophrectomy can cause an early menopause but why would a salpingectomy cause a hormonal imbalance? This was my 4th lap, previous laps were to remove adhesions and this has never happened before. If anybody could shed light on this I would be really grateful. Many thanks.

Any surgery -not simply a gynae surgery can disrupt the cycle for up to 2 years... I think you were lucky on previous occasions. mine have always gone haywire afterwards for a bit, and after a large non-gynae op in my early 30s it never recovered a routine after that for some 10 years till i stopped y periods with mirena and got my life back to normal again.

If you find it hasn't settled in a few months or sooner if you want more control about knowing when you will be on, then go on the pill for a while to try and get the routine back.

It doesn't always work that it will stay regular when you stop the pill, but it's the only option available to at least try and get things more regular . Best of Luck. Certainly at this point no need for panic.

Thanks so much for your reply Impatient. I do keep a close eye on my cycle as I've been trying to conceive for so long. I also suffer quite badly with premenstrual stress so it helps to know whereabouts in my cycle I am. I was having acupuncture before and after my previous surgeries so maybe that helped. Never knew that surgery could wreak so much havoc with your hormonal balance.
