Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy

Hi, just wondering if any of you lovely ladies have had a Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy? I’ve got endo, had cysts removed laparoscopically in 2012, all fine after that until recently when I’ve started to experience quite bad pain. An ultrasound has revealed a large cyst on one of my ovaries. Consultant has arranged for me to undergo removal of the ovaries and Fallopian tubes along with the cyst. I’ve just turned 50, healthy, no kids. Any advice, info or experiences would be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Take care x

Hi Natasha, exactly the same as you, papers signed in Dec. I have my pre op on the 22/02. I’ll keep you updated. Have you got pain? I’ve been lucky until recently but I’m now on constant pain killers due to back and abdomen pain, a hot water bottle is my best friend! Take care x

I’m in Liverpool and fortunately, the waiting times for surgery are good, consultant said it’d be within 12 weeks or so when I saw her in December. How about you? x

As far as I know it’ll be weight, blood pressure, ecg...probably covid test too! I’ll let you know once I’ve been on the 22nd so you know what to expect. I don’t know how long my op is likely to take, she said she’ll remove the ovaries, the cyst and Fallopian tubes, but depends on what she finds with regards to the damage caused by the endo. Onwards and upwards for both of us x

I’m currently been put down for the same, except I’m 35, no kids and a cripple and just almost died from sepsis linked to my Endo! I am having a full hysterectomy plus at least one ovary removed!

The reason they go aggressive the second time around, is because Endometriosis is linked to cancer! The risk is low, so they don’t inform you straight away, as to alarm people! If treatment fails, which I’m sure you’ve tried, hormonal, surgery ect then it’s time to take that Endometriosis seriously!

I am looking forward to my hysterectomy! I want it out! It’s better to be safe, than sorry! Xx

I'm also currently on a list to have a 14cm cyst removed and potential oopherectomy to remove an ovary, hopefully not both because they don't the extent of the damage and I'm only 18 so they want to preserve as much as possible. I'm still waiting on a date having signed all the paperwork on the 1st December and being put on an urgent list. I just read your in Liverpool, I'm in Cheshire so I'm hoping the waiting times aren't too much longer, the pain and everything is just horrible. I hope you're doing okay xx

Hi Rosie, sorry to hear you’re going through such an awful time too, when I had my first lap the surgeon warned me that he may have to take the ovary if the cyst was wrapped around it, but, they will do everything they can to preserve the ovary, and that’s what happened with me, I had the cyst successfully removed and the ovary was still intact and continued to work. I’m sure they’ll do the same with me. This time, as I’m older this surgeon has said as my ovaries are almost retired! I don’t really need them so she recommends taking them out. I hope all goes well and you’re not waiting too long. Xx
