Hey licerio13, what pill are you taking? That happened to me after my op for endometriosis, the hospital told me to keep taking my combined pill back to back, but it was oestrogen overload and so i bleed for weeks :[

The progesterone pills work by gradually thinning the menstrual lining over time so they reduce period bleeds a great deal- but that's not an instant remedy.

Tranexamic Acid can only be taken for about 4 days in a row, and would NOT be drugs you should double up - the drug works to improve the clotting process each month if you tend to suffer heavy periods. I was on that for many years - some months it worked well others it just didn't seem to be so effective. But it can only be taken for a short time, and whether it has worked or not you have to stop after 4 days and wait till mother nature stops the bleeding and hope you are luckier the following month. It can be on prescription or bought over the counter under the brand names Cyklo-F and Femstrual webmd.boots.com/women/heavy...

It's only last year that it was cleared for over the counter sales which is great news.

The birth control pill packs taken back to back should reduce the number of periods you have in year from 13 to 3 or 4. as you should have a break every 3-4 months and have a period then start the tablets again.

Mirena Coil and Skyla coil are placed inside the womb and thin the lining over a few months to the point where they should stop your periods for up to 5 years with mirena and 3 years with skyla which is the smaller version of mirena.

Nexplanon arm implants also have a 3 year life span and should stop periods or considerably reduce them after a few months.

Norethisterone is a better period manager - because you can start taking it right away, but must take it religiously 3 tablets a day evenly spaced out- and not more than 12 hours between tablets. This drug can be used to delay your next period starting, so long as you remember to keep taking them. Excellent for holding a period at bay when you have a holiday or exams that you don't want to be 'on' for. When you stop or forget to take the pills it will trigger a period usually within a couple of days afterwards.

all the birth control pills take settling in time and can cause disruptions to your cycle of bleeding at first, this is normal and is a necessary evil to get through so you can see the benefits of the drug later on. I would always advise trying any of the treatments for heavy bleeds for at least 4-6 months. Whatever side effects it throws at you at first, until it jas had the chance to settle and your bodygets used to the changes in hormones you won't know how good it can be for you longer term.

There are no immediate fixes for heavy bleeding, but the Tranexamic Acid will help your body to get a better grip on clotting the wounds inside and ease up the heavy bleeds.

A two week long bleed is not abnormal. It isn't nice, but is not tht unusual.

A sizeable number of ladies experience that every month, some bleed for 3 weeks in every period with only week off. some have 1 week on 1 week off 1 week on again.

The best way to get a grip on periods is to get used to some form of hormone birth control which is also a period controller.

Mirena is the lowest dose one, and longest lasting too. It takes 4-6months to stop periods but wow when it does- it is liberating and lasts up to 5 years before needing replacing.

That settling in time can be a bit crampy and you will still have periods at first but gradually the new lining that grows each month gets less and less till there is nothing there to shed each month and periods stop.

I had a heavy 2-3 week period every month for years and years. I took norethisterone to delay periods as and when that was necessary- and tranexamic acid to try and stem the tide,

but the mirena has transformed my life giving me back by my estimation 9 months at least in each year, of bleeding free days that i was enduring for many years.

It has transformed everything, and I can't feel it at all, don't have to remember any tablets, and saved a small fortune in tampons and towels and constantly doing laundry because of flooding leaks. So worth it, I wish it had been invented when I was a teenager or that I'd tried it as soon as it was invented. Very glad to have discovered it now though. It was 5 months before it stopped my periods.

Don't give up looking for a solution. finding one that works for you transforms your life. They don't all suit everyone - but they all need a chance to get to work properly. It may only take a small adjustment in the hormone dose to suit you much better.
