Hi, I had mine fitted in 2011 and straight after it was fine, about 20 mins later I started getting extremely painful cramps which made me resort to going to bed and these lasted all night. But after that night I was fine. I have spoken to a few different people who have had different experiences though. Hope this helps. x

Thanks for your reply samin, I've just had mine fitted and I found the fitting extremely painful, I don't know if this is normal. And now

I've got really bad cramps! Just taken codeine tablets prescribed from my doctor as paracetamol and ibuprofen just don't work, and now I just want to get into bed, I understand everyone has completely different experiences and usually my pain tolerance is high for cramps because I have really bad ones with my periods so I'm just surprised. X

Yeah I was shocked when the cramps started too. I hadn't felt pain like it. It was awful.

I am getting mine out today and am feeling slightly scared that the pain will be the same.

I hope you start feeling better, as when it settles it does work. xx

Yeah it's horrible, I'm just trying to relax now. I did ask the doctor today about the removal and apparently it not meant to be as painful, so good luck for today you'll be fine! Take care x

Mine made me feel mentally and physically awful for the 3 years I had it. And my endo is so bad on and around my womb ( just had another lap) so it obviously did not work for me at least. Having it out was the best thing I ever did. Sorry cant provide a more positive story :( hope yours settles down:) do give it a chance as I think some people find it helps , but stand your ground if it's really not working for you. I had to fight to get mine removed x x x

Aww bless you :( yeah I know everyone has good and bad experiences and I'm willing to give it a try just didn't expect the fitting to be so painful as well as the pain afterwards, just wondering if it's normal or my body's being dramatic lol x

Ah because the doctor where I had it fitted made me sound stupid because of the pain I was in, I took my zapain paracetamol and codeine phosphate tablets my doc prescribed me for endo pain and still no better yet x

Fitting the Mirena and the cramps I experienced afterward was the worst pain I had ever experienced in my life. It's painful for many if not most people, so your doc's attitude shows some ignorance and/or inexperience. I really hope this works out for you because mine didn't - I finally had it taken out after five months but would have done so much sooner if I hadn't been pressured into just "giving it more time". If your pain from the coil after a month or so turns out to be worse than endo pain, please do have it removed as then it's just not worth it. But like I said, I hope it will work for you x

I had mine fitted in April this year. I was in agony when it was being fitted and had very bad cramping for a few days afterwards. Since then I haven't had any problems though x

Thank you everybody for your replys, it has reassured me that is not just me! Still in pain but it's settling down now so fingers crossed! X

Hi there, I had the mirena fitted 6 weeks ago and yes it was very painful having it inserted it's not an experience I want to repeat in a hurry well hopefully not for another 5 years anyway. I did have strong cramps mainly felt on the left side for the rest of that day but by the next morning it had all settled.
