I'm due to have a mirena coil tomorrow. Will they still proceed even if I'm bleeding? Any suggestions to help me get through it are welcome...

Hey! I would ring them now and explain u are bleeding and see what they say. As a rule... no they dont usually fit the mirena if u are bleeding (which is what they told me). But sometimes they are exceptions. For example i bleed 80% of the month. So they said they had no obvious window gap to do it.

Best checking first though. Xx

Thank you, I'll call them now. Has it helped you by having the coil? xx

Well the mirena was goin to be fitted during my lap and hystoscopy op but i ended up refusing the fitting of the coil. Only because i had heard and read that you can bleed worse for the next 6 months of fitting and feel discomfort and pain. I was already bleeding 80% of the month. Some months i would only have 3 day were i didnt bleed which is crazy and the thought of bleeding more i just couldnt deal with. I was also in discomfort enough that i didnt want more. My personal choice. But i have read of plenty of ladies on here who have had it. Are you having it as a hormonal option to keep ur endo at bay? Sorry i dont want to put u off. It was just my personal choice of not wanting it. Xx

I've refused to have it since January but when I was seen up the hospital they wanted to try this before other treatment.. So I feel I have to try it before they offer me anything else. if I don't get on with it I'll have it taken out after a couple of weeks. I'm having too much time off work as it is. Can't handle anymore pain or bleeding. I'm waiting to hear back from my dr. I'm going on holiday next month, was hoping to have this all sorted by then

Two weeks is not enough time - please do give it settling in time, it takes 4-6 months to stop your periods completely but all that time it is working to thing the menstrual lining bit by bit till eventully there is no menstrual lining there to shed each month. Plus it will also be triggering the cervix to produce excess cervical mucus over the course of the 1st few weeks which forms plug of goop in the uterus and cervix that holds the mirena in place.

Until this happens it is at a higher risk of falling out and shifting, but once the goop has built up -which is dependent on your own body and how quickly it produces enough of the stuff, then you won't feel anything at all of having the mirena in your body.

This is a long term solution to periods, it takes time to build up steam as it were.

2 weeks is waste of your time and pain and NHS money.

What you feel in the 1st few weeks is not indicative of your whole experience with mirena at all.

Your body hormones may need time to adjust too.

It really is life changing if you can put up with tweeks and twinges while it settles.

They are not anywhere near as painful s an endo /period cramp. but they can be felt.

Once you hve no pills to tke, no periods to worry you at all, no mess, no pain killers, no PMT, sving fortune in tampons and towels and best of all getting at least 3 solid months period free back each year assuming your periods only last 7 days, or 6 months a year if your periods bleed closer to two weeks each month, then you'll find it so liberating to be free of all the faff and can forget about it.

The initial pins of stretching the vagina and cervix to install mirena are the worst part from what most women report (I got mine put in during an op), this stretching may and probably will hurt and bruise you inside for a few days, which will need pain killers but small price to py for wht could really be a life changing little gadget.

Remember most women - millions and millions are happy with mirena and the numbers of those who don't manage to last the settling in time have given up before experiencing the wonderous benefits, so they will not be happy customers and will be more likely to complain online.

Something like 12 million mirenas are now installed worldwide, and the vast majority are very delighted with the results.

Whatever twinges and tweeks it causes in the beginning - i have none of that now, not a blip, not a spotting nothing. Cannot feel it at all, and mine is installed in a deformed half of a malformed uterus, much smaller than a normal shaped one, so if anyone would be able to feel it, it is me.

I would strongly suggest you give it 4-6 months minimum to begin to see what it can do, it will in that time have reduced the menstrual lining quite a lot making bleeds much less flooding.

That's just what my doctor suggested. If it doesn't settle in a couple of weeks they will take it out. I don't need something else adding extra pain or discomfort as it is. I can't afford any more time off work plus I'm a main carer for my mother so being poorly and out of action for a while isn't really an option. Each person is different with it reducing symptoms of endo. I'm only giving this a try as the hospital are reluctant to do any surgery. x

If u are not using it as a contraceptive they should do it. Take some painkillers an hour before your appointment and try & relax during the insertion.

Thank you. I see a lot of people saying it's really good when most of them were awake for the procedure. Take my normal excessive bleeding and pains plus a insertion of a coil... Tomorrow shall be fun haha! Did you suffer much after the first having it done. I'm unsure about work over the next few days etc x

for my 1st & 2nd coils I took the day off work only because I could and was not sure what to expect. The 3rd coil was sprung on my at my consultation at the hospital so I had no pain killers and had to go back to work after. It was fine, felt a bit sore and tired afterwards. I was in discomfort for a week hardly had any bleeding and it has settled down now - 3 weeks later. Hope it goes well x

Hi

I am always bleeding and they fitted it. It wasn't too painful being inserted no where near the level of endo pain. I am not having the best time with it but everyone is different. Good luck
