Total peritoneal radical excision surgery. 16 days post op query.

The surgeon removed wide parts of the peritoneal lining including both normal and abnormal tissue. I had extensive scarring and lesions to the uterosacral ligaments. My left ovary was adhered to the ovarian fossa. I had bladder and bilateral ureter shaving.

I'm starting to feel back to normal now finally ! Being on my feet for too long is uncomfortable but I am feeling so much better. It's been rough !

My question /worry is....

Since the surgery I have had new nonmenstrual pain on the right side. I had bilateral ovarian suspension and the right suspension site leaked quite a lot. When the nurse pulled out the stitches on that side she made me feel like she was pulling on my bowel!

I'm getting right sided back pain and hip pain. My body has been trying to ovulate and I feel a weird pulling sensation on my bowel. Also when I pass a bowel movement I get a pain in my back.

I'm concened it could be an adhesion. Has anybody experienced similar after radical excision and then it had gone on to resolve itself?

Hiya, i think there's that many things going on inside it's difficult not to be concerned about everything. If you are really concerned keep monitoring your symptoms and speak to your surgeon but in all honesty your body has had a rough time - bruising and swelling don't settle overnight - or within 16 days so try not to let it unsettle you too much. Ovulation brings more inflammation too so your poor insides are having a lot to deal with. Adhesions can obviously never be ruled out but you had surgery with an expert and measures taken to prevent adhesions so even though it's scary right now I'd personally be inclined to think that it's just all part of the healing process and that you'll continue to see improvements. I had various twinges and pains that I'd never had before & everything's settled down nicely but please do contact your surgeon to discuss it if you're worried.

Thanks for the reply. I tend to get oversensitive to every new sensation! I think I just placed so much hope that this surgery would be the answer. It is reassuring that things settled down for you. Thank you

It's understandable that you feel like that - we have a lot riding on the outcome of our surgery! It's why I opted for TPE with a specialist - to give myself the best chance. Hope everything continues to improve for you x

I had TPE and had a new pulling sensation on my left side where he had removed part of my bowel a couple of weeks after surgery. I went back to see my surgeon and he reassured me it was all normal. It completely settled after a few weeks. I would go see or talk or your surgeon to put your mind at rest. I think after this surgery I was aware of every niggle and pain and hoping it not my endo. Two years on I still feel amazing. It's just a massive op to get over, but you will get there given time. Xxx

I 'm suffering from severe pelvic pain since 4 years , i met dr Trehan at spire-dewsbury for tpe.i'm scheduled for a surgery in 6 months time . i'm very nervous and scared . what abt your right sided non menstrual pain, hip pain ? did it resolve on it's own . are there risks of adhesions after tpe . would like to know how you feel a year after surgery-awaiting your reply-pinkypop

I got pregnant in January 6 months after the surgery and after 3 years of infertility, I had my baby in October and I have been pain free for the last year. There are risks with any surgery and I must warn you the recovery is hideous. Once I got through it though I was blessed with a mirical and my life is finally back. Best wishes and good luck!

It was a tougher recovery than I expected but I'm doing well and am currently expecting my second child. I was struggling to have children for 3 years prior to having the surgery. My health insurance paid half but think it came in at about 16k in total. I didn't have to have an initial lap first though as I had that done on the NHS.
