Periods after Laparoscopy.... Not as expected.

Hey ladies, hope your all as pain free as possible today!!

I had my laparoscopy done 2 weeks ago, and they found small amounts of endo and so lasered them off, and they also found a functional cyst which burst as they were moving things around. I didn't have any bleeding after the op, but 2 or 3 days ago i had a lot of pain, and bled heavily for a day and a half.

One of my main symptoms of endo is very very irregular periods, aswel as pain and heavy blood flow.

Do you think this was an attempt at a period, or late bleeding? Im so confused right now, as i was praying that i would have regular periods like normal people, instead of wearing pads everyday just incase.

Also how soon after the lap can you start using tampons again? I did try and have a look on the forum for other peoples advice, but there were so many different answers and so i just used pads - better to be safe than sorry! Not hygienic when you go through about 8 in one day!!

Thanks

Hi, did you ring the ward/day unit you were discharged from to ask for advice? I would ring them and express your concerns . You should have a pelvic examination at the very least. Was the bleeding associated with any fever or changes in pulse rate? Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

No i haven't rang them yet, kind of feel a bit silly ringing them to ask about my period, especially when they have so much else to do. My consultant has said he won't need to see me, and he also said i didn't need to follow up with my GP, other than when i was to go back onto the pill or have a mirena.

I don't think i had a fever either, i just assumed it was one of my irregular periods.

Thanks for the reply and the advice

Sorry I thought you were worried it was abnormal bleeding from a complication. If it is your period, I found the first period after lap has always been heavier and more painful if that helps. It should improve next cycle.

Also I think it is very naughty of your consultant to not provide at least an open door to possible follow up. Even minor operations can result in complications.
