I've just been prescribed this after my hysterectomy and ovary removal but reading the leaflet that cones with the tablets says it's not recommended if you "have had your womb removed due to endometriosis". Since I have endometriosis and adenmyosis this doesn't to me sound like the right hrt.
Is anyone taking or has taken Premarin ? - Endometriosis UK
Is anyone taking or has taken Premarin ?
I have had premarin, but have not had womb removed.I would question this with your GP or consultant and have it changed.I have tried 3 or 4 Hrt types, used with GNRH agonists and found that endo pain continued with them and a few I could not tolerate as it affected my asthma.I do know that patches are better for ladies who have had hysterectomy.
How are you recovering?Would love to hear your experiences -good or bad - as think this will be next step for me.
Take care.
Thanks for your reply. I have appointment with gp this afternoon to discuss hrt so hopefully I will feel more informed after.
I feel I'm recovering really well it's only a week ago I had hysterectomy and feel much better than I imagined it would be. Ask me any questions you like and I will answer them to the best of my abilities. I think my nervousness before the op and the not knowing what I would be like was worse than the actual event. Pm me any questions and I will give you as little or as much info as you want. Michelle x
There is a really good book out that you can probably borrow from your library (like I did) about the facts on HRT, comparisons with the different brands, and also options for the medical bioidentical HRT without the side effects. It's really really informative. I suggest you give it a good read before the daunting choices you have to make. The book is written by Dr Sandra Cabot called Hormone Replacement The Real Truth.
I was given Premarin with my GNRH agonist medicine and wasn't happy with the fact that my specialist didn't offer me any other option or brand of hrt considering I am an animal lover and ethically against taking any medication which is derived from cruelty to animals. (FYI Premarin is made from horses urine).
Thanks cooka. I visited my gp last night and told her I had been prescribed premarin but hadn't taken out after reading the leaflet. And she said there are much better hrt out there and she wouldn't have given me premarin. She said 20 years ago she would have but not today. She also informed me that premarin is made from houses urine at that point I was adamant I didn't want to take it. So awaiting my new prescription today and hoping I get on well with that but I will visit my local library to order a copy of this book to read. Thanks
