Hello, I had surgery six days ago and thought this might be useful for anyone else to know:
Right before I went into the operating theatre, the anaesthetist was going over my chart and said to me “Are you taking this?” (naltrexone). I had actually ran out a few days before my surgery, which he said lucky I had as it stops pain relief from working and said that if I had still been on it, he would have had to cancel my surgery.
So I went through surgery and then as I was waking up in recovery, my God. The pain. It was so bad. I woke up in so much pain that as I was waking up, I was crying and moaning and through my oxygen mask and sedation, trying to tell them I was in pain. It was such an awful experience to wake up like that.
The anaesthetist later came to see me and said that I still must have had some of the medication in my system. They did manage to get the pain under control but it took a while. Once it was under control it was fine. The poor lady next to me in recovery was crying too and saying she was in pain too. Awful. I wonder if she had had endo surgery too?
So just a word of warning to think twice if you are on or your GP prescribes naltrexone!
Sending love to all x
