Has anyone tried D Mannose?

I get constant water infections as a result of bladder scarring from endo and ops. I'm already on long term antibiotics but my urologist suggested I could give D Mannose a go. Has anyone tried it?

Hi, I have had a similar problem and was constantly on antibiotics. After constant infections which involved the use of three different antibiotics I decided to phone the Cystitis charity and they recommended D-Mannose. I used it for a month, one teaspoon a day and it was brilliant, I felt it cleared the residue of infection and I will be buying some more soon. I purchased mine online, sweetcuresofyork, and it does the job of stopping the bacteria infecting the bladder wall. It was discovered by a lady who experienced constant water infections and is a vegetable sugar. I recommend trying it, it has transformed my life and given me hope, now 2 months clear. xx

Thank you spice47; I'm going to give it a whirl. You've really given me the confidence to come off the antibiotics.

I have never heard of this before! I have interstitial cystitis so constant but without an infection being present. Does it only work if there is an infection?

xx

Not really sure, Catness. Sorry. I hadn't heard of it until this week.

Hi Catness, I think it can also work as a preventative but it is against infection so if you don't suffer from infections it may not be worthwhile xx I think the doctors can prescribe something to coat the lining of your bladder if things are troublesome xx

Lou, I really hope it is effective for you xx

Hi hun.

I spent loads on D Mannose & it didn't help my pelvic pain, cus it's for Bacterial Cystitis, which I prevent nowadays by after every bowel movement, putting liquid soap on my bum, tilting my pelvis and pouring a luckwarm bottle of water down my vulva & anus into the toilet.

I don't get infections anymore, but ve pain, which shows that my problem is not bacterial.

By this bottle washing it can prevent infection if u and your partner do it, after every bowel movement and dry with a towel.

NO MORE INFECTIONS FOR ME!!! YAY!!!

Now I've given docs clear urine samples, we are looking to find the answer persistent pain problem. IC? Will keep u posted.

X :)

Always wipe front to back.

Don't put anything other that salt in the bath.

Wash ur hair either in a shower, or in the bath without being sat in it

If uv got bacterial Cystitis take probiotics, cranberry juice and bottle wash, avoid hot baths, try potassium citrate.

If u have Interstitial Cystitis (no infection) AVOID cranberry juice, have hot bath, use lubricants with no acids in, eat fibre to avoid constipation, drink white drinks such as soya milk, peppermint tea, avoid caffeine, only eat bananas for fruit, eat vege but non bitter ones, avoid additives, vitamins etc, join the ic support & chatroom on facebook where we all share what works and doesn't.

Arrr :) U are totally welcome hun. It is not fun having pain below :(

But there are solutions & ways of coping together :)

Alkalising the body is good - wheatgrass.

Destressing.

And Amitriptyline helps me. I have stopped Gabapentin & Solifenacin and am now on Codeine, Lustral and aiming to get a muscle relaxant, as I think I have pelvic floor dysfunction as it takes me a while to pee and it stops and starts.

I.C SUPPORT & CHAT ROOM on Facebook is giving me suggestions & support.

I love it.

X :)
