Mine was sore for about 4 days after. Don't think it's anything to worry about. Make sure you're walking around when you can as this helps gets rid of the air :-)

Very normal, it's wind because they fill you with air. This was the worst part of my laps.

I'm walking around as much as I can without hurting my tummy which is still tender. My partner read up about the recovery online and he said shoulders should be okay within 2 days. See I thought it was a bit long for the gas to still be in my stomach.

I've had five laps - in most cases it lasted 3-4 days but after my last one it took a week to go. It depends how much gas they leave in there. After the last one, I couldn't even lie down for the first five nights, it was awful,

Drink peppermint tea, take some wind settlers and drink fizzy drinks that encourage you to burp - your boyfriend can also rub your back in a circular motion which helps it to disperse.

It will pass soon, don't worry x

I remember the sore shoulder being one of the worst parts of the recovery, seemed to go on forever but I'm sure it didn't! I found a heat pad / hot water bottle to the shoulder gave some relief and drinking peppermint tea. Hope you feel much better soon x

Hi I had shoulder pain for about 5 days father. I found peppermint tea helped to ease it. Best wishes. X

My should and ribs were painful for about 1 week post lap. Breathing in felt like torture. Keep topped up with the pain killers, drink peppermint tea and wriggling your hips if you cannot walk much. It really helped me.

It felt like I still had a gassy tum about 3 weeks later. As embarrassing as it can be, make sure you burp and trump as much as your body needs to. You can blame the op!

Feel better soon

X

Mine is still hurting and it's been 8 days. I did too much too soon though. It depends on what you've had done too, its not just about the actual procedure. Eg if you have a cyst/ovary removed then recovery is longer x

Try something like windeeze? Sure that's what I did.

My shoulder pain lasted a whole week. It's such a horrible pain isn't it as If your shoulder bones are aching... I found slowly walking up and down the stairs made me shift some wind ...And drinking lots of water.. Not to much fizzy pop as I felt that made it a lot worse and also pepper mint tea and extra strong mints helped me too... I agree and the heat pad too and I found when I went to bed having my arm above my head helped sleeping too :).xx hope you get better soon.xx and don't over do it take your time and you will heal better.

Yes I agree with Belle--try and keep your arms above your head whenever you can. This changes the position of the diaphram, so that it is not resting on the pockets of air that are under your shoulders. Lying with my feet and legs up helped too, for the same reason.

I drank lots of mugs of hot water. It helps to keep the digestive system nice and warm, which eases the ways for the air to get out. Cold drinks make the digestive system frigid and it all clamps up and the air cannot escape as easy.

The first op I had, the shuolder pain lasted a good 8 days. The second op I had, it was only 3 days.

As said its perfectly normal, my first op it was awful and scary as I went in via emergency a&e and hadn't been warned about it. After that I mentioned it to the consultant before each subsequent op to remind them to expel as much air as possible after the op was finished (which you'd think they'd do anyway!) it'll ease soon, good luck with your recovery. x

Hi! I had both my Fallopian tubes removed 7 weeks ago and initially before performing open surgery they did a lap. Initially my shoulder didn't hurt but after I'd been home a couple of days it began!! It was very painful but after shuffling about (I couldn't walk!!) for about 48 hrs it dissipated. I was told by the doc at hospital that it was due to a nerve that runs from your abdomen to the shoulder and that movement does help. I also have IBS so have always got peppermint tea and capsules in, this eased my stomach but not the shoulder pain. Analgesia and moving were the only things that got rid of the pain! Hope this helps!!

The shoulder pain is perfectly normal and one of the side effects of laparoscopy but this is so much easier than having an open laparotomy (wound down abdomen) having said that its down right nasty! I am 29 and have had 9 laps now each time the 'shoulder tip pain' which is from air under your diaphragm causing referred pain to your shoulder has been worse than my abdo pain.

Do keep moving as much as possible preferably by circling your shoulders and keeping your arms above your head. Peppermint hot water helps a bit but generally moving and waiting is all you can do. I am usually back to work (as a nurse) within the week despite what is carried out, and can sometimes have the shoulder pain when I return. Take care and I hope you feel better soon. X

Hi - it is the escape of gas from surgery - get some of those heat patches - you can buy them at Tesco - they really helped me :0)

I have had 3 laps and it seems to last longer each time. This time I was just over a week. It will get better in time but unfortunately you just have to be patient. Easier said than done though eh.
