I've been prescribed two statins in the past although I've never had a heart attack. My cholesterol is on the high side. SSSAfter the 2nd dose of simvastatin I woke at night gasping for breath. My doctor switched to rosuvastatin and 30 minutes after taking the only tablet I experienced numbness, tingling and swollen mouth, so I stopped it. The hospital said I was allergic to statins.
Five weeks ago I saw a new GP because I had stomach pains which were diagnosed as gastritis and was given a proton pump inhibitor for a month and ezetimibe. This GP said I had familial cholesteremia (my father had a heart attack in his 50s) although my last blood test was almost 2 years ago (when I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes).
For the first few days my stomach improved, then I started having severe abdominal pain and general aches plus much darker urine. After 3 weeks I tried stopping the ezetimibe and things improved. I started taking it again and they got bad, stopped, improved, started, got worse. I've now stopped taking them and arranged to talk to the same doctor, telling him of what happened. He now has blood results but didn't bother testing for diabetes.
Could the recent problems be caused by ezetimibe or is that a coincidence?
