Diabetes Fight Back

Hi guys. I'm diabetic and I recently lost 2 stones. My doctor stopped my blood pressure tablets and metformin. I was diagnosed 4 years ago. I walk 10 miles a week and I feel much better than I've felt in years apart from the muscle ache. I'm 50 years old and got another 7 stones to lose and hit a healthy target weight.

Hi marc1966uk ,

Congratulations on the walking the 10 miles each week. How long have you been doing walking for your exercise routine? Did your doctor suggest it? Did your doctor put you on carb counting for each meal and/or snack?

Well done. I have also lost nearly 2 stone since September last yeat following a diet and walking routine. My sugar level is now back to normal. I am 73 and I feel a whole lot better.

I am in a similar position to you. I reckon I have another stone to lose, yet, and my blood sugars are still high. I do walk and swim regularly and

I also follow a low carb, normal fat diet. I am feeling a bit discouraged at the moment as my bloos sugars are still high and I am now on Metformin, which I am lucky enough to tolerate. I wish I wasn't on it,though. I just want to have normal blood sugar levels. Reading you post has spurred me on to try harder. I am 70 and only got diagnosed last October (2016).

Keep it up. You seem to be doing all the right things. Exercise, low carb diet and Meds. With time hopefully you can stop the meds

Well done, you! So glad the regime of weight loss and exercise has worked for you. How long did it take you to lose the weight and get into your keep fit routine, before the doctor decided you could come off the meds?

What is 2 stones

johnny1955 ,

Stone is another word for pounds in weight. Hope this helps.

johnny1955 Activity did not get it quite right. 2 stones is English for 28 pounds (14 pounds = 1 stone).

Is there no solution for diabetes? What can I use natural or herbs? Where can I find the neem plant they talked about? I can't find it anywhere.

Fantastic effort! Well done you have done a lot of hard work here and are a real role model. If you are taking a statin medication such as simvastatin a common side effect is muscle ache. You could switch to a different statin such as atorvastatin if you speak to your GP. Sometimes that helps. If the muscle ache is due to exercise... then well done again. No pain no gain. ☺

Hi Marc

Well done - you are the model of "the 1,000 mile journey begins with the first step!" Not only have you started the first step, you have kept it up at 10 miles a week. That is some feat and you are consistent. Yes, you may have another 7 stone to lose, but as each one falls away, that is another victory for you and you are already feeling better. The muscle ache will diminish in time as the weight drops off giving you more flexibility on a lighter frame. Each month look back at the previous you and your progress and eventually, after nearly a year on, you will be super pleased. Always take stock of what you've accomplished and then push on. Stay determined and positive and don't be afraid to toot your own horn. Again, good on you and best wishes.

You MUST have been T2 which is very different from T1. T1 your pancreas does not work at all, T2 it may work 20% or 80%. Keep up the good work on weight loss it will help a great deal.
