Dental problems???!!!

Hello all,

I hope you're well - considering....

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2011. According to my doctor, it was as a direct result of my undiagnosed and severe, obstructive sleep apnea.

My query is regarding Diabetes and it's direct link with Dental Health issues.

Could someone please explain to me why the government has not ensured that ALL diabetics have a direct and 'unbreakable' link to dental health services AND like the regular retina eye checks and foot checks, annual Dental checks should be part and parcel of the ongoing treatment.

I recognise that dental care is one of the most expensive services here in the UK but I'm sure most of us would be more than happy to pay something towards this provision.

Please, please come back to me with some good news as it's been virtually impossible for some of us to register and/or maintain registration with our local dentists.

Thank you for reading.

Hello Reykua here's how to find a local NHS dentist as everyone in the UK has a right to an NHS dentist and they give a telephone help line:

nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/nhs-se...

Good luck as this is important.

Thank you so much for your response.

Tbh. The difficulty is not in finding a local dentist per se, it's ensuring that I find one that understands that

(a) I'm diabetic with a phobia of dentists,

(b) I have had a history of 'fat face' as a result of the actions of my dentist in 1998, had to spend 5 nights in Royal London hospital on three different antibiotics as an emergency patient.

Consequently, I've done everything I can to avoid them over the years but things have taken a turn for the worse - I'm definitely blaming the diabetes so ....

Unlike HOBIEONE, I'm lactose intolerant so have had to resort to calcium tablets, yoghurt and bone broth.

Thanks again and stay well.

Hello Reykua, I was part of a study by Newcastle dental hosp. Gum disease is a big problem with Diabetes. After 53years of T1 since being 3. You would think I should have had some bother with that? No. Teeth and strong bones( I used to drink 6pts of MiIK per day).

Wow. T1 since 3!

I really feel for you. If you're now in your fifties, that means you have had to endure the daily ongoing treatments since the days when the needles were not quite as fine or indeed, not as easy to administer.

Thank you so much for your highly informative response.

I shall check the archives for this trial to try and understand the government's reasons for not rolling it out throughout the country. Perhaps it just wasn't as effective or cost effective as they'd hoped.

Will investigate further and come back to you with my findings.

Thank you again - your input has been much appreciated.

Stay well.

I call them days "The Panel Pin Days" not real needles, Twice the glass syringe has exploded with the pressure. The kids of today have not got a clue. Thank You Reykua ! I would love to talk to kids & parents. I am on 2 Forums with Diabetes & regularly talk to Dr & Nurses at Uni. Dentist can tell if you have Diabetes. Dentists don't normally talk to Drs.
