Hi and good evening everyone. Sorry for the delay in posting this this week. Things were a little busy, but going okay— except for being sick last week.
The sensor from last week was really good. Not too many issues. I got lucky that I didn’t have to get in touch with the Tech Support Staff.
The new sensor is working okay, but I have been woken up this morning at 3 am! The alarm went off even though I didn’t go under 80 mg/dl. I’m surprised that I’m not tired, yet!😀👍 Not really sure why, but I’m sure I will have a better sleep tonight.😀👍
How’s your evening/day going so far?

I'm rather shattered because my uncle had a heart attack 2 weeks ago and I've spent most of my time being with him at the hospital. He was discharged last night but he isn't really well.
All the stress has and is making me feel rather tired and unwell. I had 4 hypos in the first week he was in hospital and then another hypo yesterday. They really take it out of me and I struggle all day. I'm going to have to try and get a blood monitor like yours so I know exactly what my blood sugars are like all the time. Then I can try and prevent future hypos.
He's 71 and I've been to see him at his flat this morning. He was being rather difficult as usual and so I told him that he needed to see how he was over the next few days or couple of weeks and phone the support in the community helpline. I've been trying to help get him rehoused whilst he has been in hospital and managed to get the hospital social worker and occupational health therapist on board but he has refused their help at the last moment. This has meant that I cannot get him rehoused into supported housing nor get him extra financial help that could pay for carers. I've explained that I cannot run round after him because it's a 2 bus ride journey to his flat each way and will take me about 3 hours in total to do and I've my family to look after and I've to think of me because my health isn't good. I didn't like telling him this but I cannot visit him every day, it's worn me out visiting him in hospital nearly every day for the past 2 weeks and this is causing me blood sugar spikes. Today my morning blood sugar was 5.3 but I've had 5 hypos (4 in one week and 1 yesterday) all because of the stress and not eating properly.
Sorry to moan on about things, I'm very grateful for your support.
It’s okay to moan. It’s your right and you’re right for telling him what you think. Your own health is important, too and you have to take care of yourself, first.😀👍 Have you talked with your doctor about the situation? Did they say anything about your blood sugars and insulin doses? If you’re having stress, did they say to lower the amount?
With a CGM, you can log how much stress you have, but it depends on the one you use.
Thank you so much for replying, it's always appreciated.
No, I haven't been back to my GP for a while. However, I've an appointment with the diabetes nurse next week and I'm going to discuss things with her. I cannot go on having so many hypos. Plus, I've never been told to reduce my insulin if I'm stressed.
I had a medical assessment today because I claim a sickness benefit and the government tries to kick people off it after a while on the basis that you can get a job. I was assessed by a nurse and she was so lovely and understood the problems because her daughter has type 1 diabetes and she has had to buy a Freestyle Libre glucose monitoring device (it's a bit like your Dexcom) for her daughter. She cannot get one on the NHS for her daughter even though she's tried. She has told me to go back to my GP because the test strips I use can cost as much every month as the sensor for the Freestyle Libre and my GP might just prescribe them for me. Watch this space!
You’re welcome! I know it can be stressful when you need something and the medical insurance/NHS can go the other way. Please let us know what you find out soon.😀👌
