3:30 AM Friday: DEXCOM (3:30 el viernes: DEXCOM)

On Friday morning (very early), I had been woken up by the DEXCOM. It was a big surprise because when I had gone to bed Thursday night, my numbers on the DEXCOM were in the mid-200s before falling asleep. Not exactly sure how I could have dropped that much and fast while just sleeping, but I guess it was possible. At least, the DEXCOM DOES WORK IN EMERGENCY-LIKE BASIS! The vibrating alarm (I try to catch the vibrating before the music starts) went off and woke everyone in the house. Since I was up at 3:30 and ended up having juice and a bar, the numbers ended up going to about 109 on the DEXCOM after I had to recalibrate. The DEXCOM thought I was 75 and still angling down (not straight down). This caused some trouble when I was at work for the Senior Center because I was so tired.

At the Senior Center, I had to have another early snack before 11 am and 12 noon lunxh. The numbers, again were dropping and it made no sense since I had all that food from early morning and breakfast around 7 am. It was odd, but things eventually had been taken care of.

Yesterday after dinner, things were on the down trend, again, but not right away. I had to eat two bars before bed, one yogurt and a glass of juice to get the numbers back up. Will see what happens the rest of the day today and let you know.

  • Is it working properly?

  • Yes! It woke me up before I could drop lower than it said at 3:30 in the morning. Pretty good.

  • That's good. I might be starting on basal insulin at bedtime and I am a little worried it might cause a night time hypo.

It's late and I am in bed now. I go on holiday tomorrow so won't be online until next weekend. Take care and no doubt we'll catch up when I get back.

  • Which bed time insulin are you going to be starting soon?

  • Hi, sorry for not replying sooner I've been away on holiday.

I don't know what insulin is available over here in the UK, can you advise me on this please?

  • Has your Endocrinologist told you which one he/she wants you to try/go on? Not every type of insulin works for everyone. You need to be very careful and start with a small dose-- no matter what brand you use. You won't know how the body will work with the insulin until you've used it for a few days. Ask the doctor how much they want you to take in the beginning. Say that you want to start small and gradually go up if it's a definite need to do so. I've talked to my Endocrinologist about this before when he had to switch me from one type to the next.

  • Hiya,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've only just seen your message.

I'm seeing the diabetes nurse on Thursday so I'm not sure which insulin will be recommended. I've been told to start night time basal insulin which one is this? I'm a bit confused with it all!

I've not been referred to an endocrinologist but I might mention it to my endocrinologist tomorrow when I see him about my thyroid condition.

    Bye for now.

  • I'm going to PM you in a few minutes. Will answer all your questions then.
