They aren't harmful if you stick to the recommended portion size and count the carbs (don't take any notice of the "of which added sugars" figures on the label - its total carbs that count!). I have cereal some mornings, either bran flakes, porridge or a premium muesli but I stick to the portion size and I have low fat greek yogurt with mine (porridge is made with water) and berries.
A lot of people say they're harmful to everyone.
Key thing is wheat like many other things raises glucose levels, and for some people quite a lot. I don't regard wheat as healthy so generally I choose not to eat it, my choice, that's not for everyone.
Anything which raises glucose levels should be careful considered and maybe seek alternatives which don't have the same effect. I believe this applies to Type2's, Type1's and non-pancreatically-challenged people.
