Weeks 17 & 18: DEXCOM (Semanas 17 & 18: DEXCOM)

Sorry for the delay in writing this update, but I've been extremely busy. There's so much I need to say for the last two weeks (or what is starting the second week).

For starters, the day of Halloween, I went to a dance in the Wheaton, Maryland area around 7 pm. Did a lot of dancing and my blood sugars were still extremely high after having dinner at the Mall (the DEXCOM couldn't read what the number was since it was over 400). While at the dance, I had to call the DEXCOM company and ask them to send me another free sensor since the one I was using died around 9:30 that night. This happened while I was dancing. It was odd and not helpful at the time, but I took care of changing the sensor as soon as I got home that night. Due to needing to change the sensor, I was up for most of the night waiting to do the calibrations. Ever go to bed at 12:30 am and end up really tired for most of the day later?? I even ended up reading some of the User's Manual for the DEXCOM because the pie chart went away for a little while before the calibrations had to be done! I was so mad and was thinking of calling the company again and asking what to do since I was exhausted. Lucky me, I never did call them since the pie chart came back by the time I got to the phone.

As for week 18 (started that one yesterday afternoon), I changed the sensor around 4:30 pm because I didn't want to end up being awake into the next day like I was on Halloween. My plan is to try and get back on a Saturday morning change for the sensors and keep it that way (unless the sensors start acting up again sooner)). So far, this new sensor from yesterday is working very nicely and I only had to calibrate it twice this morning (1 am and 8:20). At 1 am, the DEXCOM said I was 171 straight down, but on my blood testing monitor, I was 322. That was way too far off from each other and I didn't like that, so I calibrated and then went back to bed. I was going to drink some water, but I was still tired from the very early wake up time.

While I am typing this, the DEXCOM says that I'm right now 191 going sideways. It was angling down earlier at 215. I may do another test in one hour or wait until closer to noon. It depends on if the DEXCOM gets any lower before then. Will let you know.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend! Talk to you soon.

¡Disfrute del resto del fin de semana! Diríjase a usted pronto.

  • As it is now week 18 passing, what is your general opinion of the DEXCOM and its servicing? You sure put in some late time ensuring your health remains consistent and your sensors arriving after your calls. It is amazing you have been consistent in doing a diary and it is impressive that you are bi-lingual. You are nearing six months of use in another few weeks and you have learned a lot about yourself and the machine. What is your view this early on your journey? Keep up the persistence and good work as a trail blazer.

  • Thank you for the posting of your reply. I'm going to answer your questions tomorrow after I insert a new sensor in the morning hours. Please try to read the newest posting when you have the chance.

  • I'm going to do the newest posting right now. Just inserted the newest sensor this morning and now am waiting to do the calibrations when the system tells me to. In the meantime, I will sit here and try to type everything.
