Hello All,

I just completed yet another blood test.

These are the numbers.

Fasting Blood Sugar: 114 mg/dL ( 122 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

HbA1c: 6.7 ( its the same value as of June 03 2019)

Lipid Profile:

Total Cholesterol : 217 mg/dL (232 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

Triglycerides: 66 mg/dL (91 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

HDL Cholesterol: 47 mg/dL ( same value : 47 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

LDL Cholesterol: 156.8 mg/dL (167 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

VLDL Cholesterol: 13.2 mg/dL (18.2 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

Non-HDL Cholesterol: 170 mg/dL (185 mg/dL as of June 03 2019)

But the surprise improvement is the Fasting Serum Insulin.

Fasting Serum Insulin: 11.9 microunit/ml (14.37 microunit/ml as of June 03 2019)

As per advise of my friend namaha , i did testing of hsCRP(High Sensitive CRP) this time. The value is 1.0 mg/dL.

Friends, do you think my T2D/overall health condition has improved?

Dear Barani

My comment is as follows:

(1) Lipid profile has improved since your triglycerides level has drastically come down..though your HDL needs to be targeted @60 minimum..

(2) Hba1c needs to be targeted @6 . First reach 6.5 and then 6.2....6 ... Glide path 😊

(3) your hsCRP is at a higher limit, should be ok...keep an eye

Hi namaha ,

Thanks for your swift response.

1) Is the reduction of triglycerides level good or bad?

2) Yes. 6.5 was my target this time. But could not somehow achieve this number even though i stopped having young coconut meat and restarted bed time snack.

3) Are hsCRP and HbA1c inter-related? If i bring my HbA1c down, will that have an impact on hsCRP?

Lesser the triglyceride, the better!

Triglyceride HDL ratio is also imp. The ideal ratio is 1, 👍

Hba1c reduction is very much essential to avoid diabetic complications.

A normal value of hsCRP would indicate that you don't have inflammation in your body. The net result of metabolism of all that we are eating is positive ! If the hsCRP is increasing , meaning your body develops net net inflammation which could result in gradual progression to Obesity, MetS (Metabolic syndrome) , Diabetes, atherosclerosis, Endothelial dysfunction, stroke....

Anyway, now you should target your Hba1c first, your hsCRP is not alraming at present.... Moreover , inflammation temporarily could go high during an infection, Illness.....or if there is any carcinogenic cells...

Are you not doing post meal physical exercise at least brisk walk for 30 mnts.....Some resistance training ... This would help you reducing inflammation and also Hba1c....

Ensure you get sound sleep for 6-8 hours every day!

3-4 hours gap between your dinner and sleep....

Take a lot of leafy veg/ green salads sprinkled with Extra virgin olive oil - 2-3 portions a day....

Thanks a lot for your advice namaha .

I do not get time to do post meal physical exercise. I do a brisk walk for almost an hour in the morning. I do sleep for at least 8 hours a day. The gap between my dinner and sleep is roughly 2 hours. Let me see if i can increase this gap.

I don't feel hungry at all nowadays after my breakfast and lunch for at least 3-4 hours. Hence skipping my evening snacks these days.

Risk for cardiac disease is assessed by dividing the total cholesterol level by the HDL level. Target values are < 5 for men and 4.4 for women.

Your risk for cardiac disease is 217/47 = 4.6 (i.e., No risk).

But your LDL level is 156.8 mg/dL (Borderline high LDL level, corresponding to even higher rates for developing symptomatic cardiovascular disease events). But your risk is compensated by medium HDL level.

Thank you for posting a clear blood test results.

The last two items of you blood tests are they standard in your GP practice.? This is the first time I have seen it as part of DT2 blood test results.

sandybrown ,

Cool. The last two items are not standard. These two tests are not in the scope of NABL in India. Most of the T2D patients do not take these tests. I did these tests to understand more about my Insulin Resistance and risk of CVD.

Forgot to tell you that your fasting insulin though has come down , you still need to bring down. And if you can calculate your insulin resistance by the formulae: HOMA IR= FIxFG÷405 which comes to 3.3 Which is high . Ideally it should be less than 1 to be insulin sensitive. Right now you seem to have a lot of insulin resistance !

barani19Administrator in reply tonamaha

Yes namaha . I did calculate my HOMA IR and found it be on a higher side. This number has improved a bit this time.

As of Feb 2019: 111 X 13.63/405= 3.73

As of Aug 2019: 114 X 11.9/405 = 3.34

By the way, this is the lowest value since i'm diagnosed T2D.

I will work on to reduce my IR. Will keep you posted.

👍👍I am sure you will.

Best of luck!

God is great ! Perhaps you need to lower your BMI and I need to increase my BMI for which I am struggling like you !

This is the only way to overcome insulin resistance ! And once it is done , then it is done ! 😀

There is no other short cut!

Thanks namaha . My body weight has not reduced by 100 grams in last three months. It is extremely difficult to reduce weight now as I have gained this weight when I was in late teens. I hope it's the same struggle for you to gain body weight.

I like your simple conclusion to our problem.
