LCHF Vs Long/Emmer Wheat

Hi All,

I would like to get some practical suggestions from you all.

I was on partial LCHF(even though my friends like namaha proposed a full time one) diet. To start with LCHF diet, I was avoiding major carbs only during dinner. My dinner was usually boiled peanuts ( 1 cup) or coconut meat (half) or Organic A2 Paneer 100g max. Having them for dinner was great as it pulled my PPBS down. My PPBS use to hover in the range of 120-125 mg/dL consistently. But the problem was my FBS. It was in the range of 115 to 125 mg/dL. It never reduced below this range. So, i changed my diet to a normal emmer wheat diet for dinner. I have 1 to 1 and a half chapati with some subzis now. My PPBS is in the range of 125-135 md/dL. But the biggest surprise is the FBS. Its now in the range of 100- 115 mg/dL.

Which diet should i follow for my dinner? emmer wheat or LCHF? Which one is better?

Please provide your suggestions.

Thanks

P.S: I'm not any medications

Dear Barani 19

Congrats !

👍

It is great that without any medication you have been able to control your blood sugar especially your FBS. The only co-relation seems to be a low calori food in the dinner which has helped your FBS the next day..

Achieving blood sugar control is more important than any particular diet you take..

Best of luck !

Thanks namaha . You might be right as the calorie content of my dinner would have had some impact on my FBS. The next thing i'm going to try is Paigambari wheat along with Emmer wheat. Will keep you posted on my findings.

LCHF diet will control FBS as it is proven with thousands of people.

100 to 120 BS is okay not an issue ..

I think you still need to check your carb content while you have dinner and control the same.

FBS increases not only due to carb content but also greatly dependant on DAWN phenomenon ,which varies person to person.

Please post your daily meal plan as a part of LCHF diet.

I think Dawn Phenomenon might be the reason for my elevated FBS. I had a bowl of Organic Pasta yesterday night (for a change) and checked my PPBS. It was 119 mg/dL. My FBS today is 107 mg/dL.

The below is my daily meal plan.

1) Pre-breakfast , 2 spoons of soaked methi seeds, 1 glass (200 ml) of full fat milk with approx 2 spoons of Palm sugar

2) Breakfast- 2 dosas with 1 cup of Sambar+ 2 spoonful of Ghee

3) Mid lunch- Betel leaves+ clove, Amla, etc

4) Lunch- 150-200g of boiled Emmer wheat along with Sambar/Rasam(typical south indian meal) with vegetables(except potato) + 2 spoonful of Ghee

5) Evening snacks- 1 glass (200 ml) of full fat milk + chia seeds

6) Dinner - 1 chapati/2-3 Emmer wheat dosas + 1 spoon of Ghee

You need to highly control your carb content

IF you want to follow LCHF

Cut down all the G.P.S. that is Grain Potato Starch

Replace Milk with Milk Cream

Replace ALL direct sugars with stevia

Have a high saturated fat diet , example chicken , ghee , coconut oil , paneer , walnuts , almonds

Vegetables : have unrestricted

Have you talked with your doctor about what diet you would be best suited for to get your blood sugars down?

no Activity2004 . It has been sometime since i have visited a diabetologist. But please note that i have been non-compliant from day one when it comes to T2D. When i was initially diagnosed with HbA1C of 15+, i was prescribed insulin shots which i never used them till now. Ever since, I have been trying all the various methods to pull my BS down.

What dose of insulin do you take for each meal?

Dear Barani19

Your T2D case seems very interesting :

First of all it looks like you are not following LCHF diet strictly, But still you have been able to control your blood sugar with zero medicine not even Metformin. 110, 129, 125 numbers are not that bad whether it is fasting or PP.

What is astonishing is you have managed your T2 from Hba1c of 15!

Was keen to know what is your current Hba1c?

What is your BMI?

How much exercise / walking per day ?

Whether your work life is active or sedentary ?

Thanks !

May God Bless you !

Thanks again namaha . My HbA1C test is due next week. I will send out a personal message once i get the results.

My BMI is 27.8.

I use atleast 40 minutes of my cross trainer daily without fail.

My work life is very sedentary. I sit and work for at least 8-9 hours.

Hi, I tried emmer wheat long time back from point of view of introducing more variety in my meals. While one hour after meals my sugar would be in 200s, 2hrs after meals reading would always be 96-100.. it's very clear that eating high carb emmer wheat induces pancreas to overwork n produce more insulin, hence the spike n hence below normal ppbs. How long will remainder of beta cells last in the pancreas if they are made to overwork all the time by eating high carb meals. Also I've come to believe high blood sugar is just a symptom, the main problem is insulin resistance so if that be the case then after a while any high carb meal will result in excessively high uncontrollable sugar levels with maybe even complications. I still would go with low carb and healthy fats meals combined with an active lifestyle. 😊

Hi Hidden , Thanks for the information. How long did you try Emmer wheat meal? How many times in a day? Did you had metmorfin or any other medicines during this course?

In my case, I have noticed 60 minutes spike of my meal multiple times. It is usually in the range of 140-145 mg/dL. Then PPBS settles down in the range of 100-115 mg/dL.

Also, Emmer wheat has shown some promising results after continuous usage of at least for a month. For e.g, within last 10 days, my PP has dropped to 90s twice.
