To know whether one has diabetes or not ? What test to take in these below mentioned tests... Am confused which one to take among these... Suggest one... Pls ...
1.Random blood glucose level.
2.Fasting blood glucose level.
3.The HbA1c blood test.
4.Oral glucose tolerance test.
5.Capillary blood glucose (home monitoring).
6.Urine test for blood sugar (glucose).
2,3 and post prondial blood sugar level tests.
Diabetes is diagnosed with the following blood tests:--
Fasting blood glucose level -- diabetes is diagnosed if it is higher than 126 mg/dL two times.
Random (nonfasting) blood glucose level -- you may have diabetes if it is higher than 200 mg/dL, and you have symptoms such as increased thirst, urination, and fatigue (this must be confirmed with a fasting test).
Oral glucose tolerance test -- diabetes is diagnosed if the glucose level is higher than 200 mg/dL after 2 hours.
HbA1c measurements should not be used for diagnostic purposes, although they can be used for monitoring Diabetes Mellitus control.

Sir so fasting test alone enough? Correct?
Fasting blood sugar (FBS) and postprandial blood sugar (PPBS) tests are necessary to confirm Diabetes mellitus.
Sometimes HbA1c may give false positive.

I would say anyone tests as follows 1 >120 , 2>100, 3>5.7 4- Fail the test, 5 - Same as 1, 6- +, indicates T2D. However for a negative confirmation of T2D, you would need 2, Fasting Insulin, 3, PPBS
Am hypothyroid and in 2016 I had fasting sugar 98 and ppbs 120 , and after tat today took fasting test alone. Tomoro Result Wil come !
