Our body needs sugar for various activities .It is one of the main source of energy. So body must maintain a certain level of sugar in form of glucose in blood ,normally it should be around 100mg/dl,range is 80 to 110..When the level of glucose goes very high in blood, it is called hyper glycemia or diabetes. When level of glucose goes down in blood it is called hypoglycaemia .
There are two main organs in body which are intimately responsible for maitainance of blood sugar.First is LIVER and other is PANCREAS.when we are EATING it is Pancreas and when NOT EATING it is Liver which tries to maintain blood sugar.
During eating blood is flooded with sugar, and pancreas take sugar OUT of blood,by secreting a hormone INSULIN.When sugar is out of blood,it has three options mediated through insulin. 1.used as energy, 2.to be stored in liver and muscles as glycogen, 3.to be stored as fat.But conversion into fat requires POTASSIUM.Actually each molecule of insulin need equal number of potassium molecule. Now if potassium is deficient glucose will not be converted into fat and sugar will rise in blood. That is why Diabetics are advised to eat plenty of vegetables.
When not eating the blood sugar falls, then liver pumps sugar into blood through its store that is glycogen from liver and muscles. When it is not sufficient then fat is used.In this process liver uses its hormone INSULIN LIKE GROWTH FACTOR or in short I.G.F.Structurely it insulin like but it's function is opposite to insulin.
IGF is just an extension of growth hormone. Its functions include, fat burning,it ptotects protein from breaking ,thereby prevents muscle mass loss, common in diabetics, protects cartilage and collagen fibres. It is also anti ageing .
It is presented in a very simplified way avoiding technicalities, so as to be benefial. Thank you.

Yes your posit is good and explains about diabetis. Further please clarify the following main facts depending BS persons.
If the person in empty stomach in night and going for walkor excercises and after completing walk or excercise his sugar is raised or not ? Also if the person takes Past for one day completelywith liquid food and fruits then What happens his Blood sugar ? Thanks
Depends on many factors.Diabetic? type 1 or type2.
In non diabetics glucose levels can remain fairly constant.Basically during light exercise or walk (around 25-30 min. ),the body decreases insulin secretion and increases glycogen breakdown into glucose to meet increased energy demands.
The problem with insulin dependent diabetics is that since they are injecting insulin, the body
has no way of down regulating insulin secretion .This means less glycogen is broken down into glucose. The result? low blood sugar or possibly hypoglycaemia.
It also depends on general physical condition,Anaemic.debilitated, ematiated, suffering from infection, high fever etc, etc.
As usual mis representation of facts. One of the functions of insulin is to convert glucose into glycogen.During walk or exercise , when the demand for energy is more ,glycogen is broken down into glucose. Now as there is abundance of insulin in blood, greater part of it is again converted into glycogen, because of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes, hence level of sugar falls in blood.
you always distort things only to prove me wrong.I know you suffer from a complex known as ( INFERIORITY ).
Please do not forget we are talking here about different situation,i.e..fasting and exercise in a diabetic, who is taking insulin, when patho physiology is different .If one goes for vigorous training and exercise the blood sugar rises while bs falls after light exercise.
i will not indulge in technical details,as we are talking in layman's terms.
Think what you like, i am closing this biased discussion on my side.BTW if you had wanted healthy discussion ,it was expected one writes like "i agree with the inference but i differ about mechanism and so forth".But who i am to tell you about decency and courtesy ?
If you don't agree that does not mean that other is wrong. So that goes for decency and coursey. If one preaches and even if practises, that does not mean that he is right.
I can only say that if sin is committed by both sides, it is meaningless to discuss who started it.
you cite your ref. for your contention. And you are not competent enough to judge what is right and what is wrong.Let the community decide .Your saying "WRONG" does not make any thing wrong.
thanks for your suggestion. The post was a very simplified version, some one out there is trying to sabotage every thing ,by opening unnecessary arguments on technical issues, which i am sure most of the members are not interested or if i may say so, understand. All the same i will continue my endeavour in best possible manner for sake of this forum.I have no interest in propagation of single point idea, except creating awareness about diabetes, making people understand what is diabetes, its complications and how to avoid these, etc.
When i write any thing it is well researched and from so many different sources,so it is difficult to tie up with a single article.
I always welcome meaning ful discussions,as it brings out many things that be not known, misperceived or even wrongly interpreted.I see no harm in it,one can not be all knowing,it is a way to understand something in totality.
I find your Blog very nice & to the point.Everybody differs in its system and symtoms may vary and we must individually consult Doctor for our specific needs.Regards,P.C.Basu
To avoid confusion, may be you can describe the function of liver and pancreas first and then go into medical and technical explanation!
"The liver's main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. As it does so, the liver secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines"
"The Pancreas and Its Functions. The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen. It plays an essential role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body's cells. The pancreas has two main functions: an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar."
"The liver makes sugar when you need it…. When you're not eating – especially overnight or between meals, the body has to make its own sugar. The liver supplies sugar or glucose by turning glycogen into glucose in a process called glycogenolysis."
