Certain changes in diet and exercise may have a positive impact on raising HDL levels:
* Decreased intake of simple carbohydrates.
* Aerobic exercise
* Consumption of omega-3 fatty acids such as fish oil or flax oil.
Adopt DASH diet (Mediterranean diet). Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.

Actually its easy to lower cholesterol than BSL. Ur HDL is okay. Keep Check on total cholesterol/ HDL is below 5.5.
Just follow diet and "dont let yourself feel stomach full"- Eat slightly less than required. 20min brisk walk in morning, 20 min walk after lunch and dinner for jus 10 days will lower ur LDL drastically also it will increase HDL.
All d best. B healthy.
38 HDL is OK. Not so low. Mine is only 29. Inspite of best efforts not increasing. Nothing to worry about it. You can try the diet and exercise as suggested by Mr Gangadharan Sir
Avoid edible oil as far as possible because so called oil is adulterated with paraffin oil which is the culprit in increasing cholesterol
