I have recently joined this community and website.
This post is to seek if anybody has personal experience from vegan diet in reversing type 2.
I have been following it for 2 weeks now and finding it very good. I eat as much fruit I want (have been enjoying mangoes along with other fruits everyday). Eat lot of vegies (raw and cooked), legumes ( lentils, rajma, black chane, white chane) and grains (dalia made using jowar, bajra, jau, brown rice, green dal etc. or oats everyday) and jowar plus bajra roti. I don't eat any animal products - meat, milk, eggs etc. I don't eat sugar, bakery, oily food or take any alcohal. I am taking B12 and vit D supplement.
I followed LCHF for 4 weeks but somehow I felt that it was not right to skew my intake like that although it did help in bringing down BS. But now I am on vegan diet. ( Those who need more details can checkout Dr Michael Gregor and Dr Neal Bernard on youtube which is what I started following. )
I am 40 years old.
BS 6 weeks back : FS 260, PP 340.
Now : FS 125, PP < 140 most of the time. ( Eating rice spiked it few times so I don't take it in lunch or dinner anymore).

A1c values were 11.0 (lab1) on 8th April. Later on 20th April, another lab gave me 11.9 (lab2). It went down to 8.8 (lab1) after 6 weeks.
Doing pranayam for 35 mins. Yoga for 15 mins ( mandook and ardha matsyendrasana ).
Walking 30-40 mins and Jogging 30-40 mins everyday.
Also doing some weight loss exercise for 10-15 min, 4-5 days a week.
But the question is if people have benefitted from vegan diet. I am seeing positive result but my experience is only 2 weeks at this point.
Fasting sugar levels have been coming down week on week. It was 260. Then it dropped to 180 range. then 160. then 140. This week I am seeing 125-130 consistently. I presume that it will continue to fall with current diet and exercise.
I have consulted few docs. None have very elaborate inputs on diet. Most asked to stop sweets, sugar etc. My primary doctor, Endocrinologist (MD, DM) , was not agreeing with not taking metformin but i wanted to continue without medicine. So to summarize, no doc input.
Thanks for sharing with us your diet and lifestyle in controlling your Diabetes. You seem to satisfy with your new diet as you have seen some positive outcomes. A lot would credit to your regular exercises which is great. Please carry on your current diet as long as you think it's good enough to control your BSL in a healthy range for diabetic. This includes your next HbA1c and perhaps lipids numbers. Do not stress yourself too much. Your diet should be sustainable and enjoyable.
I was on A1c 11.2 and fasting @210 in APRIL This year . I started with Metformin for 5 Days and stopped. Now I only Managing with diet and physical activity.
I am too vegan and my A1c last month was 8.2 , 11.2->8.2 in 30 days .. now i am waiting for 3rd month A1c .. currently, my Fasting is around 90-100 and 1 hr post meal peak @140-150
Thanks a lot, This is very helpful to know. You have made great improvement in 30 days. How are you managing your diet ? Do you have any diet plan that I can look at, online links etc ? I am trying to improve my diet to ensure that it is well balanced. Any other things that you would like to share that you are doing to bring down the BS levels ?
Well. How much protein and fat you must be taking daily and of course carbs, too? What are your sources of protein and fat?
Please share.
Your diet is wrong. Too much fruit will land you up with nafld. Legumes contain 60% carbs. Millets have high gi of 71. And you hardly seem to be taking protein.
Learn about D. Also learn about gi gl of the food you eat. There is a catch in veg diet. We eat legumes as a source of protein. Taught since my school days but in reality they contain 60% carbs and 10-20% protein. Richest veg source is cheese paneer hung curd and certain veg ( please refer to my recent post. Sorry don't know how to retrieve ). Eggs fish meat if you are nonveg.
Wheat and grains are high gi gl food. Should be avoided.
Nafld nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Fat deposition and later liver damage not due to alcohol but due to fructose.
Ok. thanks a lot. I will check further on lentils and nafld.
I don't take wheat but take other grains, and although high in carbs they don't seem to lead to high BS levels ( that's my observation in last 2 months ).
I have become vegan for limited period to see its impact on body. I have been non-vegetarian and eat chicken and fish. So probably will look into that afterwards. Although I thought these foods lead to high cholesterol ?
