Restless Leg - Interesting Article

Article says iron is not getting across the BBB. Wonder if helps with PD.

They are trying to sell, but Interesting . I already take some of the things mentioned. Says I need Lactobacillus plantarum 299. My probiotic has Lactobacillus plantarum but does not state 299. The article has links, but I don't really understand medical jargon.

I have the probiotic Neuralli, which contains Lactobacillus Plantarum 128. I wonder if this has the same effect on iron as Lactobacillus Plantarum 299?

Probably not.... And because they are trying to sell, their claim that 299 does maybe Bogus!!!

I found the Jarrow Formulas cheaper on iHerb.com

Looks like 299v does as claimed, this link doesn't mention getting iron across the BBB.

The article suggests a freeze dried capsule may not be as effective, but what other option do we have? Regardless, I ordered some and I am willing to try anything to get rid of RLS.

Here are the ingredients. Kind of low on DV of D3. Do we all need more B6? I take a gram of curcumin twice a day, but this whole proprietary blend is only 227 mg.

I have a high school degree, so please do your own research.

Pyridoxine is the toxic form of B6. Only 2 mg is probably not enough to do harm but still, they really should have known better.

Label does not claim 299v. Could be a multitude of LP's.

I am under the impression that probiotics seed the gut and it is not necessary to take 2 a day. Is that true?

Yes that is my understanding

It depends. Some probiotics are colonizing and some are not.

...the brain cannot take up iron directly from the circulatory system... (does 229v help maybe)

Unless you have a "leaky brain", right?

I just want to throw in that I always thought PWP have too much iron in their brains. Iron Chelation is something that has been tried (they used Deferiprone). As I recall the iron went down but the symptoms got worse so they stopped the trial.

I question if iron is the problem. Yes, iron is one of the metals found in autopsies of deceased PD patents brains, but it could be due dysfunctional iron utilization.

This is about Traumatic Brain Injury, but may apply to PD as well:

On that subject: If I am not mistaken TMI is suspected as one of the causes of PD.

...modifying central iron levels may offer hope for that most elusive of treatments: a disease-modifying therapy for people with Parkinson disease. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Maybe the key is modifying, Maybe the 299v will help control iron levels. I don't have restless leg often, that and Toe Curls are usually when I am late taking my C/L...

Is it Fe3+ or Fe2+ that cause problems? Which was measured in PD? Was it both?

Is High Dose Thiamine (HDT) a mechanism of repairing a Leaky Brain? And, a reason HDT works.

…Several B vitamins sup.port the health of the blood-brain barrier:

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency disrupts the blood-brain barrier and supplementation can restore it.

Vitamins B12, B5, and B9 (folate) can restore blood-brain barrier integrity.

I wish I knew the answer to that. I do have a hunch though that having lived in an area that had very high iron content in the water maybe was a contributing factor to my symptoms/diagnosis.
