If you’re on a KetoDiet like I am, sardines are a great source of healthy fats. Oily fish, Omega 3’s, and low on the food chain. A little cottage cheese on the side for extra protein. I’m a big fan.

I think sardines are an excellent food and i just love it. However, according with Dr. Laurie K Mischley research, canned products are one of the worst things for Parkinson's, so I will keep eating them fresh 😊

What is Dr Mischley reasoning behind his conclusion, if you remember pls

Hey grumps. The answer is that they don't really know. Her survey lines up what people say they are doing (I.e diet lifestyle supplements etc) with how they say they are feeling (basically). So it's not well designed to provide technical explanations like the one you seek, but she does offer this:

Consumption of canned fruits and vegetables was a strong predictor of PD progression. Initially thought to be associated with socioeconomic status, the association remained after adjusting for income. Bisphenol A (BPA) is used extensively worldwide in the inner coating of food cans, and there is evidence that BPA contaminates foods stored in the cans. BPA is a well-established endocrine conductor associated with obesity, and more recent evidence suggests that it is an energy balance disruptor [27]. Additionally, aluminum is an established neurotoxicant, and the aluminum content of the cans may be contributing to the association [28].

She does mention that BPA which is used on the inner coating of cans, is a food contaminant... produces endocrine associated with obesity, ...energy balance disruptor and a neurotoxicant. I think as long as she references citations and sources that's fine. If she goes more technical than that it would be unreadable to the layman reader

Your reply actually answered the why? ie because BPA which is used to coat the cans is bad for PwP 👍

So this is my conundrum: Considering the fact that I am both lazy and have never seen fresh sardines, how many sardines will I eat in a year if I don't eat them from tins?

BPA Update: Tracking the Canned Food Phaseout ewg.org/news-insights/news/...

This is some serious poop. I guess they got most of the BPA out, but replaced it with other questionable substances. Even food in jars has substances on the lids.

I’ve been avoiding canned food but didn’t think about the lids on glass jars. Just can’t win. Dr. Mischley told me to find sardines in glass jars. I will ask her opinion about the lids next time I see her.

I also eat some canned tuna once or twice a month, but i always think twice before i eat them. This specific result from Dr. Laurie research was something that caught my attention some time ago. Since then i avoid all the canned food i can.
