This is where the story gets good ... and bad ... for all of us who consume vitamins to fight our PD.
I sent a 'WARNING' email to the vitamin company about their FALSE ADVERTISING. I got a very weak reply without apology.
So ... I Googled "consumer protection attorney" for the city in which the company has its headquarters.
GOOD NEWS! I just got an email from the founder of a prestigious law firm (multiple offices in a BIG state) that wants to file a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
BAD NEWS! In my further research about any other legal complaints about this vitamin company --- ... I also found many complaints about other "reputable" vitamin companies which have been accused of POISONING us with toxins and contaminants IN THEIR VITAMINS (and "health food") including:
Thanks for providing this list. I looked at the first couple of dozen entries. It looks like almost all the items are foods rather than supplements. I would not call this good news, but supplements are not the main offender here.
it would be helpful if they had an index where they listed the companies and then their products that are suspect - this is kind of a backward way to find the offenders and definitely labor intensive
can you open this below? my functional dr suggested i order from this site. i can get a disct through him also. he says he does not make any money off my purchases. read fullscript's quality assurance. I check this site and then I compare to amazon to see if it's cheaper there but at least i know it is one that's on fullscript.
Doesn’t surprise me considering the lack of regulation on these products…lead in everyone of the first 100 listed, and let’s not kid ourselves, curing our diseases is not profitable.
This is one of the reasons I always advise PwP to be guided by a qualified and experienced Naturopath who does not participate in any multi-level marketing scheme.
Most of us belong to regulatory bodies who investigate supplement companies and have analyses of supplements.
While we all make mistakes from time to time, trained naturopaths are very wary of recommending supplements that they have not investigated.
Another reason for getting qualified advice is that many supplements hyped online are either unnecessary, useless, contaminated or contraindicated for PwP.
For your information, I subscribe to Consumer Lab. They review supplements and post ingredients, etc. And give a top pick for those that are safe and those that are not. I always check with them before buying a supplement, That way I can avoid what you brought up. Check it out. I think you will be pleased to find a trustworthy source,
i hate to break this to you ... but consumer lab "ain't" a "trustworthy source"
I did a thorough search about them 6-8 months ago as a result of another post here.
1. Consumer "Lab" does NOT do it's own lab testing! They outsource their work to questionable 3rd party lab -- both usa and foreign ones -- who are not themselves monitored
3, only 4 out of 5 stars from 26 anonymous reviews (and ya gotta figure at least half of them are from "ghost" replies from the company itself). Even at face value ... that's 20% of people saying "NO WAY!" to a company that SELLS MEMBERSHIPS (yes, they are a FOR PROFIT company).
you missed my detailed post -- with links -- about consumerlab
i'll summarize it fast:
1. They have a B- rating on the Better Business Bureau
2. They do NOT do the testing themselves! They outsource their testing to labs in the US and overseas which are NOT regulated or inspected
3. They are a "FOR PROFIT membership website" ... NOT ... a "true consumer-focused source of reliable information"
4. Reviews from their own membership give it only a '4' star (out of '5') rating -- and THAT is suspicious given only that there were only 26 reviews (so you gotta figure HALF of '5' star reviews are "ghosts" from the company itself.
I recommend British Supplements (NOT available on Amazon, and not 'British Vitamins' - they are spawning a lot of scam lookalike sites). The owner is pretty eccentric but highly focused on providing clean, high quality supplements with zero fillers or 'flow' agents which large manufacturers all need for their machiners (magnesium stearate etc). He says he researches and then formulates capsules according to effective dosing, and buys fresh rather than from stock sitting in warehouses for years, and tests his supplements. So - this is the best I've found. He is about to start delivering to the USA (he is based in Northern Ireland).
There are some very powerful reviews on there for Macuna and PD (and likely some others too). Going there now to get the link I see that they offer it in two different potencies - I'd only seen the stronger one before which had put me off (undiagnosed early PD here).
