Due a flexible sigmoidoscopy on November 1st 🙁Nervous above and beyond
Am opting for no sedation or pain relief and hoping all goes nice and quick and well 🙏
Also praying to get some answers as have been unable to eat normally now for two years and if I do try to eat any gluten, dairy, soya or vegetables and fruit I have loose bloody stools 😔 can't even drink tea or coffee as it triggers loud gurgling noises followed by bloody stools ( never any pain though)
Had normal CT scan with contrast dye, all normal blood work but have high calprotectin every time testing at 1800. Legs ache terribly especially knees and back hurts alot.
Hopefully get some answers and shall update as it may help someone else with similar issues like mine 😊
Best wishes everyone and fingers crossed all is well 🤞🙂

I recommend having gas and air available to use if you are uncomfortable at any point. There's no shame in having a little help when the camera goes round corners!
I know how nervous you must be but this procedure will help bring about a diagnosis and you can get treatment to help you.I always opt for sedation, it helps me relax while having the examination and why suffer if you don't need to, but obviously the choice is yours. Gas and air is an alternative as suggested.
The staff who will carry out the sigmoidoscopy will understand your nervousness and don't be embarrassed to let them know how you feel, it will be better for all of you.
Sigmoidoscopy is not that bad, not as bad as colonoscopy. The camera only goes in a short distance as your sigmoid is low down. It's usually pretty quick. Good luck
I've had a number of sigmoidoscopies over the years, and please be assured that in my experience they are not in any way painful, so please don't be too worried. A full colonoscopy, however, can be unpleasant, it's true.
Do please speak to the clinical team and let them know your concern and I'm sure you will be absolutely fine.
I wish you all the very best for a successful test and an end to the unpleasant and distressing symptoms you have been experiencing over the past two years.
