Hi everyone I've recently been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (sept) I have been taking mesalazine tablets since June and now I have seen a gastroenterologist (mid Nov) he has added new medication which is a pentasa enama and a prednisolone enama which I am 3 weeks into I have been asked to do another faecal sample in a couple of weeks to measure my calprotectin level which was originally taken in May which was measured at 2100 I have read alot of comments on here and some quite remarkable stories of people's original calprotectin levels and what they had got the levels down to I was just wondering how quickly or slowly do they change
If anyone has any information for example what levels they were and are now and the length of time it took to get there it would be a great help

My experience is that with enemas it should take 2 weeks to a month to get your levels down to something you would be happier with. Then it is a matter of keeping on top of it. Diet also plays a part in my experience. Ditch booze, sugar, coffee and fried food ASAP Diet is a matter of experimentation but there are some things that are no brainers for me. I wish you luck and good health.
I have been on Infliximab for almost 6 years now and have not had any problems or flare ups. My calprotectin levels jump about a bit, but I have not noticed any difference when it is high. They tend to use it as an indicator of inflammation so that they can take action.
Diet is different for everybody. The thing to watch out for is if anything you are eating is causing the flare up/pain in the first place. I have had Crohn's for over 40 years and the only thing has been salted peanuts by the handful, no problem the odd one, but not a packet of them. No problem with spicy food, alcohol, sugar, fried foods etc. I do not drink tea or coffee. When recovering it is always best just to stick to food you find easy to digest. If you have had to stop eating after a bad episode, just build up gradually, soup, then eggs etc. try not to overload your system. My system is poor at the moment, the adhesions of 3 operations, so I am on a low fibre diet.
What symptoms did you have with the calprotectin levels at 2100 cause mine 1911 and I've got pain in right abdo and back, nausea Alltwen time, started with diarrhoea now Badly constipated, tired all time and feeling like I've got a lump in my throat. I've got a colonoscopy on Thursday which I got given to me 1 hour after speaking to a gastroenteritis specialist. I've got no traces of blood or infection in my stool but I'm really worried.
