Healthy normal colon at last - update on my story

Following my post nearly a year ago about the success I was having taking Sodium Butyrate I wanted to let you know that it worked! I had my colonoscopy yesterday and the whole colon is healthy with no inflammation or polyps. Seeing as I was ill for 25 yrs and was facing the prospect of having to start injecting myself with biologics to get things under control, I am on cloud nine and wanted to let anyone who read my post last year know how it all turned out in the end. It’s like I’ve found my key to staying healthy which also includes Kefir everyday and pro and prebiotics, I’m updating just in case my journey can help someone else. Warmest wishes to you all x

I've been OK thanks, my last colonoscopy showed only mild inflammation and not due another until 2025 so all in all nothing to complain about. The year has flown by but time really does seem to go quicker the older I get!!!Take care xxx

That’s good to hear things are ok 😊 I’m so looking forward to not having to think about IBD every day of my life!

Great news for you and others who is taking SB, really give hope and hope. May I ask prior SB how many times are your toilet visits daily? I read your last year post and noted you have remarkable improvements, and what is your current toilet visit? I stopped SB when i treated my latent TB with Rifampcin for 4months. Glad this time it was uneventful compared to last year (Isoniazid) and finally I completed my treatment. However my toilet visits daily shot up to at least 5 to 8times daily ( sometimes saw blood when wipe). Inflammation markers like ESR, C-reactive went ridiculously high too during monthly blood tests. My doc advised me to stop SB when having this treatment. Will start soon with calcium butyrate and hope it will bring down inflammation soon. How I wish to go back remission. Suppose to go for biologics treatment next after my latent TB treatment but stop due to financial cost reason

Hi Akido, I was going 6-12 times a day at my worst. I couldn’t eat anything without needing to go straight afterwards. I couldn’t eat out ever and everywhere I went I had to locate a loo (like in shops etc) in case I had the urge to go, Now I go once a day, sometimes twice, but that would be at least 12 hours apart so my life has completely changed as you can imagine! Thanks for your reply and I really hope the butyrate works for you. All the best xx

That's fantastic and really interesting read, I have been put in antibiotics and just about to come off them with recommendations to use VSL#3 by my consultant, at nearly £50 for 30 sachets of 450 billion bacteria it is an expense I could do without.

I hope you do not mind me asking only I am interested in what brand of Sodium Butyrate you are taking and the dose, as well as the pre and probiotics you have chosen, there is so much rubbish being sold it would be good to have a recommendation that helps. I used to have milk Kefir daily but I stopped, looking to restart this again, I heard that Kefir is great to drink just before bed for a good night's sleep. Looking to try and introduce some other good sources of probiotics too.

Great Christmas present, you can treat yourself to some lovely food you have had to avoid for so many years 😊

Hi Gillian TS. Thanks for you reply. My sodium butyrate comes from BodyBio. I stock up when it’s on offer to save a few pennies! I took 6 a day for about 6 months then gradually reduced down to 2 a day which is what I take now with my breakfast. I took a high dosage at the start because I had read about trials in USA that had used this amount with great success. The pro and prebiotics I’m currently taking are from BodyFokus called Synbiotic Active Vitality but I was taking Garden of Life Primal Defense Ultra until very recently. I drink 150ml Kefir every day which I know has helped a lot (fermented foods are fab for the gut like Kimchi etc).

I hope this helps! Yes am enjoying eating things now that I couldn’t before, it’s bliss! Happy Christmas to you, warmest wishes xx

Hi, thank you very much for sharing your success and how you have achieved this, it is absolutely fantastic for you to get confirmation too from your recent scan. As those who suffer with many different gut related issues any success is a huge relief 😊

I will take a look at everything you have shared with me. I have an appointment with my consultant at the end of December and will consider discussing with her, she is quite happy to look at alternatives views after my having so many tests and scans to try and eliminate a situation that so far has not been forthcoming with what had been tried so far.

Take care and enjoy your newly found freedom. Happy Christmas to you too xxx

Thank you for your lovely message 🥰🥰 I still can hardly believe it and haven’t stopped smiling. I watched the camera go all the way up and couldn’t believe my eyes! The chap doing the procedure and I were laughing and celebrating (between me taking some gas and air as it was a bit uncomfortable at times) as the camera continued its journey it was literally one of the best days of my life! I never thought I’d say that about a colonoscopy!

That’s great your consultant is open minded, mine is too and was impressed I had found Sodium Butyrate. I hope it works for you if you decide to try it. The one I take is the just the plain Sodium Butyrate 100 capsules pot xx

Hi again is it the Sodium Butyrate you have used or the Calcium/Magnesium Butyrate?

Thanks

That is wonderful to hear. My doctor suggested that I take it but I figured it would be one more thing that didn’t work so I didn’t. I’m encouraged now to try it. Thanks for sharing.

Hi the Sodium Butyrate I take is from Body Bio and I take 2 capsules a day with my breakfast. The probiotics I take are from BodyFokus and I take 2 a day on an empty stomach, one as soon as I wake up and the other just before bed. Hope this helps x

HAPPY for you❣️👏👏👏👏👏.

Do you live in the USA or the U.K?

If you live in the U.K., are you seeing a private gastroenterologist or a NHS gastroenterologist?

And what specific IBD have you been diagnosed with?

Hi. Great story.. thanks for sharing. Did the Sodium Butyrate actually get rid of existing Polyps or did you just prevent you getting any new ones?

Happy-hacker profile image
Happy-hacker in reply to Wilwak

Hi Wilwak apologies for slow reply. I had polyps present at my 2019 Colonoscopy but none were seen last November so yes I suppose the whole healing process did get rid of them!
