calprotectin levels of over 2000 and positive FIT test!

Hello, my problems started since I’ve got over covid (which knocked me sideways for over two weeks) I suffered from what I believe was anal fissures which my GP treated me with cosmocol sachets and gel. Following on from that I started to get urgent bowel movements, diarrhoea, tummy cramps. This tailed off for a week where I spent the entire week with a full ache - what I describe like when I’m menstruating - but in my Bowels if that makes sense?! Then I suffered again sudden diarrhoea, tummy cramps but this time Maroon blood and mucus.

i was initially told bacterial infection so sent my stool for cultures which came back negative. More stool samples were sent for calprotectin and my levels were over 2000 and a FIT sample came back positive.

My Grandfather had quite bad ulcerative colitis.

I’ve been referred now under 2 week wait so expect I’ll need a colonoscopy.

I’m scared it’s bowel cancer even though I’ve been told calprotectin levels of that levels are usually IBD and bowel cancer are usually mildly elevated.

Any advice while I’m anxiously waiting would be appreciated!

my calprotectin levels are Mildly elevated but calprotectin my doctor said does not detect cancer they don’t yous it for that it just detects inflammation in the bowels which could with be chrons or colits that’s why my GP said cos I was worried my levels were 167 and now there 111

But I’ve had bloody mucus urgency stomach vrps loose bowels with blood constipation back ache and more …

I got tested for infection and it’s negative I also got told by my GP that some people have very low levels like mine and have full blown colits / chrons he said he doesn’t really go off numbers now if there abnormal then it’s a colonoscopy to rule out IBD and other possible causes but he definitely said they dont use it to detect cancer a

Inflammation only and I’ve been having symptoms for 6 months now mine stopped for abit and then come back and

Now it’s gone again I’m pregnant so I can have a colonoscopy just yet got to re test my calpro levels in 2/3 weeks time see where there at

I know my GP said they use FIT test to detect cancer but definitely not calprotectin that’s the information I got from him but having a positive FIT test could just been you internal Hemorrhoids

Anal fissure etc so I would worry too much you symptoms do sound like chrons / colits

Hopefully you will get your colonoscopy date through soon x

hi there, I’m not so much worried about the colonscopy. I’ve had much worse. It’s the anxiety about results,

What was your calprotectin when you was diagnosed ?? X

hi thanks for the reply 😀. Do you find your UC can be aggravated by diet ? If so, what things cause a flare ? I’m currently writing a food diary as I can have 3-4 good days and think wow I feel fine - then seem to have a night where I wake up at 1am with cramps and diarrhoea - seeing if there is a link with things like sausage/bacon and cheese ??

Thanks again x
