My 12 year old daughter is iron deficient, lost alot of weight, constant fatigue and has returned a calprotectin level of 5320! She is to have a colonoscopy in the coming weeks, feeling scared of the outcome and very stressed! Does anyone have a similar story?

Hi there. Is she experiencing diarrhoea? The colonoscopy is the best way forward. It’s scary I know, but I take the view that it is important to know what the cause is, so you can get treated. Sooner the better so she can start feeling well again.
Poor kid having to deal with this so young.
Bnicho48, flavonoids such as Kaempferol offer anti inflammatory relief in the intestines. Also thiamine is critical for gut health and requires adequate magnesium to become bioactive. Be aware of anti thiamine factors that impact thiamine. Search on "stuttering anti thiamine factors" for a comprehensive list and "IBS thiamine" for more info on thiamine's role. Check these links out and always consult your health care ptovider before using ant supplement. links

Im sorry your having to go through this with your daughter, I know just how frightening it is.
Before my son was diagnosed with uc he didn’t have the typical frequent loose bowel movements and pain instead he had severe constipation and blood on wiping. He was very fatigued and spent any time he could sleeping. I remember being very concerned and just knowing something was not right. His weight was also an issue as well as his appetite.
I know seeing very high fecal calprotecin can be alarming but in ibd it can be . My son has had as high as 7000. Weirdly it doesn’t always correlate to the amount of inflammation either. I know of lots of people having widespread inflammation with much lower levels and some with a small area having off the scale levels.
It’s very common in ibd for you to have low iron levels. Inflammation causes ulcers that bleed.
Having said that celiac disease can also cause these thing so until she has a colonoscopy you won’t know. The colonoscopy I’m sure will be given while she is asleep because of her young age and once you armed with the results and information you can set about getting her well.
Please try and not worry too much .
Wishing you both well x
Thankyou everyone for your advice, stories & situations. I realise we need to find out more first but the waiting and the stress of not knowing does not help. Having a meeting with pediatric gastro on Monday so hopefully we will have a plan of attack soon. Once again thankyou it helps to hear how others have gone through similar situations.
I can relate to the stress you're going through - my best advice would be to wait for a proper diagnosis before burning yourself out mentally.
Its been 3 years and I still don't have a confirm diagnosis or should I say, they haven't given the fancy inflammation in my colon a name yet!
Do keep a close eye on your daughters symptoms and specifically if there is blood in her stool. A colonoscopy and biopsy is the only way to really figure out what is going on - hope it's nothing!
Also hoping she got a colonoscopy appointment soon and doesn't have to wait months
I’m sorry to hear this I just hate hearing things like this about children. The only thing that help me was the specific carbohydrate diet and I did take one medication that worked great along with the diet. I am now in remission no longer on medication and just doing the diet. pecanbread.com
