I have endometriosis and I’ve had surgery for it and I’ve been experiencing bowel problems before that I just put to endo but my endo has been removed. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy which revealed swollen veins in the rectum but nothing else. I’ve been referred to a GI consultant but I’m nervous that because they found nothing in the sigmoidoscopy, I’m just being crazy and the pain is in my head
Does a sigmoidoscopy always find IBD ... - Crohn's and Colit...
Does a sigmoidoscopy always find IBD if you have it ?
Your post, and especially your comment "....in my head" took me back 54 years. That is exactly what I was told, or to be more exact what my parents were told about me. It meant I suffered for a further two years, before anyone took me to see a doctor, to finally sort out my pains, and diagnose Crohn's disease. Regarding your question, it is certainly possible to have Crohn's without the sigmoidoscopy picking it up, especially if the disease is in it's most normal place of Terminal Ileum (Junction of Ileum and Colon), however, a calprotectin test will prove very useful, in assisting with a diagnosis, and I am surprised this hasn't been offered, prior to the sigmoidoscopy.
I agree with FRreedman about the calprotectin test. My Crohn's was diagnosed easily, once they looked for it, as it started in the very last section of the digestive tract.
