I’ve been diagnosed with proctitis too. From reading up and receiving replies here it does sound manageable so try not to worry. It is less extensive than ulcerative colitis when it’s confined to rectum. The goal seems to be to dampen down inflammation so doctors prescribe medicines like pentasa suppositories and then steroids if there is a flare up. Have you been offered medication? This will reduce number of times you go to the loo and the urgency. Good luck. Keep writing here
no havent recieved any medicines yet from the gastro doctor.Just having esomeprazole tablet and metamucil .What can i do for the burning sensation in my rectal area.Any advises please
I used to use melting ice for the last wash of the rectal area, took off the acid content and slightly numbed the area. There are creams with anaesthetic content, I think one I used was called Lidocane, might be worth seeking medical advice before using this. I spent much time standing in the bath, with various bowls of melting ice, and tissues, hubby used to wonder what on earth was going on!!!
Ask your doctor for a course of pentasa suppositories. They are tiny and as to use . The are basically an inflammatory pellet and this will help dampen the burning. Good luck
