I have had severe diarrhea (all day & night) codeine have partly stopped it if I hardly eat. Got a colonoscopy coming up so have to stop codeine. Very scared to be given a laxative too will be permanently on loo & agonising pains! What do docs do in these cases for the bowel emptying prep? Thanks!

Nothing you really have to go through it. It’s not nice having to take. It’s so difficult trying to take so much fluid & as soon as it goes in in comes straight back out. I struggled getting to the hospital but made it. It’s the only way really. Try not to worry to much as it’s only clear water comes out ur back end ! All the best you’ll be fine x
gosh ok is it only on the day of your colonoscopy u take the laxative? is it really embarrassing? i am nervous. someone said u break wind all the time when camera in i hope not?! lol!
You only do it 24 hours prior to having the colonoscopy. No don’t be embarrassed the staff are used to it. They put air into u so you’ll be windy after it. They’ll explain before they do it. It doesn’t take long either. All the best x
