Great idea! That is a lovely sentiment. I was so shocked and saddened by the news.

I ran my 5k last night then later heard the news and just felt I had to go out again for a run in their memory; full of saddness and tears as I ran in the dark. I wasnt going to run today but just have to...... :(

you get me to think, suppose to be a day off today but .........

Go for it; it will lift your spirits :)

I ran this morning, thinking of those in the Boston marathon and of the spectators and the families of those affected. It was the windiest I'd ever run and then the rain started again and was blowing into my face - but I didn't care. I ran because I could.

Life is precious.

I second that.

Am going out for mine very soon in brilliant sunshine which I am sure will help change my mood from sadness to the joy of running because, like you, I just can.......

Its blowing a gale up here but I'm going out later this afternoon. Like you say SBG in memory of those who died, lets hope the injured make good recoveries.

Hear, hear!

I ran 4 miles today in the memory of all those who died and for those who have been terribly injured.

Good on ya! :)

Agree. Had 4 days off due to work but have to make it out tonight come hell or high water! To train so hard for a marathon and have the ability to run taken away, or worse. It's devastating.

My thoughts exactly. I've been really slack with running lately and feeling rubbish today, but I'm going to go out tonight and stop making excuses.

in reply to Rollertoaster

Me too (and so close to graduation - week 8) so I need to get my finger out and be thankful I can run!

So close indeed! Only a few runs to go, you can do it!

By the way, when are you 30? I turned 30 last Sept, while doing C25K. It's definitely not as scary as you'll expect, in fact I quite liked it. I feel wiser and definitely fitter :)

"It's definitely not as scary as you'll expect", Is that C25K you refer to or turning 30!?! :) I turned 60 in 2010 and I'm fitter now than I was in my 40's, so it need not be all down hill after any birthday, Has to be a few ups though when your running :)

in reply to Oldgirl

Amazing. Just proves we can all get fitter, no matter what our age. I was out of any exercise for over a year after a nasty foot injury from netball so I'm so happy it's holding out for me to complete this program! Here's to getting fitter and keeping it up long-term :-)

Very true Oldgirl, and there's certainly been plenty of ups!

30 in June so looking to graduate and then build up to 5k (no idea how many k I'm doing at the min but doubt it's anywhere near 5)! Well done for sticking at it since graduating :-)

Thanks! If you're interested in logging your distance, there are many different ways of doing it that are available; smartphone apps, websites, garmin watches (the expensive option :) )

in reply to Rollertoaster

Thanks. Trying to figure out the best way. I live on a new development on an island of reclaimed land in the sea so mapmyrun etc doesn't recognize where I'm running! I've tried to map online too but some of the roads aren't available. Not sure I quite want to invest in a garmin yet so need to do more research on some other apps. I'll find a way ;-)

wow, that sounds very exciting and certainly challenging for logging runs!

in reply to Rollertoaster

Sounds more exciting than it is. It's a bit like The Palm in Dubai!

Its just terrible. I was watching the bbc news for about two hours last night just asking "Why?".

I went out and did 30 mins in the gales, with the sun beating on my face. Spring has sprung, but not for some. A humbling moment. Prayers to them all - Karen x

Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston (her book Marathon Woman is so inspiring btw) said:

"It was a very tragic day and for me, who loves the marathon so much because it embodies freedom and fearlessness and empowerment and just to have it savaged like this for no purpose. I mean, running is a global force for good and there is nothing wrong with it and there’s no agenda, it’s the only sport where people don’t boo other people."

As you say Karen, why??

Absolutely right. It's so shocking and cruel. Like everyone above I went out for a run this morning, it was extremely windy but felt the right thing to do. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families - and the heroic people who are helping in so many ways.

I saw a posting on FB that says it all really "when we run for each other, no one can stop us" how true.....

I ran this morning, intervals on the treadmill, but I did run!

I thought of everyone affected as I ran tonight. I watched the news when I came in and was just so saddened once again. I would have been shocked before I started C25K but I feel closer to it in a very small way because I am making baby steps in running myself and for the first time can really appreciate what people must go through to do the training. And then something devastating like that happens to them.

I ran 5 k this morning! special thoughts for those who cant,so tragic!

I'm struggling with the runs at the moment, but after reading these comments I realise how lucky I am to be able to go out there and keep trying. Tomorrows run will feel very different now, will certainly be thinking of those in Boston
