Second run of W2 completed and I’m disappointed that I felt terrible today! I’ve felt good despite the niggling aches during previous runs but today I went out feeling ok and looking forward to it and ten mins in I felt rubbish. Light headed, aching all over and generally lethargic. Completed the run but didn’t enjoy it in the slightest! 😕
Going to give myself a couple of days off and complete W2 on Saturday.

Don't worry. For reasons we can't always explain, some runs start well but just go a bit 'meh', for want of a better word, somewhere in the middle.
Often there is no obvious reason, but sometimes it can be down to lack of sleep or not drinking enough fluids. It is important to keep up your daily fluid intake (recommended 2-3 litres) on both rest and run days. Poor hydration really affects your muscles and can leave you feeling a little light-headed.
Rest up for a couple of days before giving the final run of week 2 a go. Hopefully you will feel better and your run will go like a dream!
Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.
You got a run that sucked... it happens... but you completed it... so while it may be a disappointment of a run, nobody could possibly be disappointed by the runner. Completing this run is a victory, take some time to celebrate that fact. Next one will be smoother!
How amazing are you?! Felt rubbish but kept going.....that there is running skills nailed!! Pat yourself of the back. Take a full days rest and set off again knowing your head keeps those legs moving no matter what 🎉🎉 victory!! 🎉🎉
Yes that happens. What’s nice though is that it’s still benefitted your training. So pat on the back for doing it. One day, you’ll enjoy all your runs, we just need to put up with the challenges to get there. It’s worth it! 😊
Aww I know it’s disappointing but progress isn’t always a straight line remember. You’ve started. Still better off. I’ve just completed W2R3 and my ankle starting to cause problems so I’m trying to work out what to do with that. I feel it’s beginners problems and I think it’s about learning at the start. Good luck with next run.
Hey Judy, thanks for the reply and encouragement. I’ve now completed W5R2 and am suffering with my ankle also. It turns out that my ankles are prone to over pronation due to me being flat footed. An expensive pair of specialist trainers (for my condition) purchased and I am determined to see this programme through. I hope your ankle isn’t giving you too much trouble. It might be worth looking at your gait to see if you have the correct footwear for your running style. I found the Asics website very helpful.
Well done W5R2 over half way through there. Thank you yes good advice I did get my run gait assessed before lockdown and invested in proper running trainers at specialist shop. Since This post I’ve discovered it’s side of my foot the prob which is now better though can still grumble a bit. I tape the side to stop it moving when I run and this extra support helps. Online research.
I guess my body also getting used to this massive change. I’m now W5 R1.... every time I run it gets easier but different too... the weather and wind affect me and hills too...
Keep going.... it’s a great programme and I feel progress despite the torturous moments. Yesterday I also had dog poo on my trainer ( thankfully only one) and worst job ever cleaning that off! But another run done.
