A Runner's Prayer For 2015

To the running gods wherever you may be

Listen up and hear my plea

I want to run steadfast and sure

I've got the bug and there is no cure.

Give me strength and lots of grit

Determination to keep me fit

A perfect balance with mind and body

This is not a passing hobby!

Give me speed and wings as feet

Targets to reach and times to beat

The sense to work on all my pacing

But improving splits for faster racing.

Energy and stamina would be great gifts

To keep me going and make me swift

Lots of get up and lots of go

Would be a bonus when I'm feeling low.

Keep me supple, lithe and lean

A perfectly tuned running machine

No sprains, no strains, protect my knees,

Ankles, hips and ITB's.

Keep me safe when I'm out there running

Make sure the cars all see me coming

No bogeymen or growling dogs

No tree stumps, roots or random logs.

Protect my health and keep me strong

No flu or bugs all winter long

I don't want to take time off

So keep me running at all cost.

It is a lot to ask I know that's true

I'll do my bit if you do too

I'll swear allegiance as a friend

If I can run until the end.

Here endeth my prayer on this good night

But I can't forget this fab, fun site

Look after my pals and we'll all endeavour

To keep on running forever and forever!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! xxx

Thank you KittyKat. Glad you enjoyed it. I started it in the summer when I was on the injury couch and it really was a prayer!

Happy New Year to you. xx

Excellent penmanship princess, another forum friend who should be published, send it to Runners World! I will be keeping this one close to me and might even do a 'novena' to get me back on track....definitely one for the fridge? Thanks for sharing your words with us.

Thank you hilbean for the vote of confidence. Not sure it's what my English teacher had in mind when she talked about poetry!

Maybe that's why she was a teacher and not a writer? ;)
