What the best treatment for runner's knee?

I work at a standing desk and I run regularly every week but I have a niggling injury to my left knee. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone else use a standing desk? Could it be my posture when I stand or is it more likely to be a poor running gait and stride? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

It’s hard to tell from here. In general some knee strengthening work, and core work, will help a lot. Linking runners world’s guide to the knee which also includes their “injuryproof” advice... hope it helps.

Strengthen your core muscles and build up the muscles around your knees with help from a properly experienced Pilates teacher.

Have you had any gait analysis? Are your shoes right for you/ your form? Have you seen a physio or sports therapist?

I have a monthly sports massage and any little niggles are picked up then and she advises me on the right work/stretches to resolve issues as they arise.

We can't expect to change our habits and for our bodies to just be able to adapt without the right help. As mentioned overall strengthening of core and surrounding areas are very likely to help.

Many thanks, JoJo. There appears to be a common theme and trend to the responses, which I am receiving. Thank you again for your detailed reply.

Ive just recovered from a knee injury but please don't ask me what it was.... I felt a really sharp pain in my right knee the stopped me running for nearly a month. I had a physio session who suggested shortening my runs and limiting them to 15 minutes maximum before I felt any discomfort. He also gave me some exercises to do which were forward lunges and step ups. 3x15 reps on each side. That is my experience but I'd have it checked out to make sure you're not going to do any permanent damage. Hope it clears up soon.

Your knee, like everything else, has to strengthen. We get new runner niggles - hopefully nothing more 🙂

I got a niggly knee. I rested it. No difference so I ran again, hoping to run it off. It worked and it’s never bothered me since 😃.

We’re not doctors though bear in mind 🙂👍
